Wow... If my bike were the only thing keeping my sanity in check I would have gone postal the second I bought it.

But then again, it always does feel so very good when things go right for a (rare) change.  So I guess I can feel where you're coming from Ghoulie.

After all, I am going after a Norton next...  Call me a masochist, but I'll be one of the few masocists with a brit bike in Nashville  ;D.

Dan,
you better check with your local ordanances, Norton's might not
be allowed in Nashville.

Good luck with that, Dan! Unlike the Honda, a Norton is a harsh mistress who will make you cry at the slightest provocation, but will also reward you with the most fulfilling 'rapture of the ride' possible......and I've only put a few hundred on miles on mine!

You could trash the carb and use the tube on the intake side of your existing carbs for an alternative to the stock air box.
Why worry about tomorrow for tomorrow has enough troubles of it's own.

OK, Jonesy, enough already with the stereotypical 'leaky Brit-bike' jibes!! The motor on my Norton is as tight as a ducks bum. No, the leakage is the heavy weight oil that is mandated for use in the swingarm (grease is verboten)....!!

A gay duck?

JUST KIDDING!!!!   ;D ;D ;D

I love Nortons.  In fact, a 750 Commando is what I set out to buy, but the prices (among other things) drove me right over to the Japanese bikes.  ;D

Sorry, couldn't resist. There's a guy who brings his Norton down to the local bike nites and it always has a puddle of oil under it...

I thought the saying was "Tighter than a frog's ass.."?

They're both watertight so it's all the same!!

The good thing about the passage of time vs. Nortons is that there is now a plethora of information available on how to make the motor keep the black stuff on the inside. Unless the guy is just waiting until he has to deal with the leaks (the most common is around the tach drive take-off) he should be able to fix it now.

Well, the way I look at it...  I'm going to cafe a '72 Norton Commando 750, and I want people to say, "What the hell is that?"

I'll say, "It's a 1972 Norton Commando cafe."  And they'll say, "Norton, never heard of that" as opposed to "Oh, a Honda."

You gotta admit, Brit bikes (although tempermental and leaky) just have more prestige than Jap bikes when it comes to the unwashed masses   ;)

All I can say is that whenever I am out on the Norton I have to allow double the usual journey time to get where I am going because every time I stop someone comes up and starts reminiscing about an old bike they used to have....can be any make, Brit or American.

When I'm out on the Honda I allow that extra time because the people who come up to chat used to have a Honda.

Two completely different mindsets, with the former usually being really old farts (my age or older) and the latter usually being my age or younger.
