tmht - try your local BMW dealership.  No idea why, but they seem to be the one's that carry Nolans.

Closest BMW dealer is in Baton Rouge... So for now I'll stick with the full face Scorpion. Going out to San Diego for Christmas though, I think I'll hit a shop or two there.

Wine colored Zeus flip lid with a iridium gold face shield.

I love it.

StevieMac, I keep seeing that Davida. How does it fit/how is it with Wind noise?

Nolans are sold by one of the following; Parts Unlimited, TuckerRocky, or Helmet House.  Most shops have those catalogues. I have heard they are much more noisy than regular helmets, though.

I have an Arai full face and Davida half-helmet with sheep skin in the flaps for wind noise.  My next full face will be a Z!, however.  Fits like an Arai at half the cost.

I'm looking to buy a used Davida, anybody got one cheap?  Anything else like it would be considered.

Remember that a few of the Davida helmets are not certified.

I was thinking about these for the retro look with the new age technology, and the fact that I could care less what I look like on my bike.  Open face for summer/spring/early fall, and the full face for late fall and winter.  Or I might just go to ebay and go extreme old school and rock the old Bell.

If you honestly don't care what your helmet looks like, why are you going for the "retro look with new age technology"?  Also, why would you specifically go out to look for an oldschool open face Bell helmet?  If you don't care what it looks like, why not buy a full-face helmet, and at least make sure you get the safest lid for your head?

I'm going to disagree with Uncle Ernie's opinion of the Z1R. They are shaped like the Arai Signet, and they are safe according to the Motorcyclist test. But they aren't anywhere near the comfort or quality of the Arais or Shoeis. There is a reason why it's a $100 helmet.

I could be wrong. I just tried on a guys helmet and it seemed like it fit good. He said he paid about $250 for it, so I guess I have the wrong name. That's irritating...

I just purchased a Nolan N-102 in white from Amazon.  Delivered for $194.  Has an air dam on the chin guard, which helps with the noise, an excellent double latch that requires one hand to open it, an antifog face shield (which I have not needed, since it is still 100 degrees and very dry down here) and the helmet has great airflow, with all vents open.  I have a bell modular as well, and it is just plain HOT.

Oh, I also put silver reflective tape on the back and down the centerline.  Bought a couple of Flag stickers that seemed bright.  Called it good.  It does stand out.

man, jeff - that silver for 100 seems like a really good deal - i just don't know if i can justify buying a helmet online...there is absolutely no way to try it out. i guess i shouldn't've even asked... :P ::)

That's where the local dealer can out do mail order. Your dealer just has to stock it.

But, if your dealer doesn't stock it, you can order it from DK and can easily return it if it doesn't fit properly.

A couple of months ago I went from my 3rd Shoei to a Soumy Ventura.  Nice comfortable fit, light weight, stupid air ducts on the top that I removed and plugged up.

The downside being, of course, that you then swallow up any savings on the price of the helmet to pay for the shipping both ways.....

A lot of dealers will order in anything that is currently available, even if it is not a product that they stock. With careful head measurement you should end up with the right fit most of the time, and if things do not work out then the dealer can exchange the helmet. Just don't leave the dealer in the lurch!

At least here, if the order is $100 or more, shipping to you is free. $6.95 for shipping back if it doesn't fit. I've never really had dealers take a special order item on return, but I haven't had much stuff special ordered from a dealer. It is really easy to measure your head, but the shape of the helmet is where the problem can come in.

Take Suomy's for example. They have a helmet that my head measurement will fit, but the shape of their top of the line helmet is so different from my head it's like putting a square peg in a round hole. It felt horrible, but they are very nice helmets with excellent paint and features.

I just ordered a hawk helment off ebay the other day for $50 bucks new shipped.   but have seen them online for around $199.99 plus shipping.  Needed to replace my 80's looking Arei helmet I got from my father inlaw that white with blue and pink stripes on it.

But also been looking at this company and their helmets for around town. kinda like the vintage look of it.  Also the price can't be beat for a dot helment at $21.99.
