Yes they will fit, actually they are the same carb bodies.I run `74 550 carbs on my `72 500,I just used the jets and needles from a 500,so you might have to rejet.500 has 100 main and 40 idle jet and I think the 550`s jets were smaller.

I have 71' 500 carbs on my 75' 550 , and mine had 38 idle jets stock, which I bumped up to 40s. I think I am going to drop them back down, I seem to be idling rich.(which may not be the only issue)...

They will physically fit, yes.  But, there are different carb setups to match the model.  The setups are stamped on the carb body mount flanges. I have a chart with the setup specifics I know about.  It should be an attachment.  But, this is my first try doing that on this site.  Let me know if it works.

I've used the same set of CB550 carbs on three different 550s and now on a 500 over the last 5 years. Bikes have all run great with no rejetting or sync.

I created the chart with data collected from the Honda shop manual and its supplements, direct observation of my bike collection, and discussions with SOHC4 list members.  I only put data in there that I had some confidence about veracity.  I've heard about, but have never seen, Honda supplied booklets for their dealers/shops that specified the components for each carb setup that was supplied by the production facility.  I was never able to convince those who were quoting those books to make copies or somehow get them into the public domain for us restorers and old bike aficionados.  What a pity.

Thanks for the table, really useful information. Why don't you place it under the FAQ's ?? Thanks again, Stephen
