Topic: Found 1979 CB750

I located a 1979 CB750 only a couple of miles from my house. It has been sitting out for at least two years. It has a nasty old fairing on it, and a crusty old 4 into 1 exhaust on it. In short this bike obviously has been neglected to some extent.
Now first and foremost I need to know if this year of 750 is a good year for the CB750? I think the bike looks like it could be "fun". Hopefully I can get the owner to sell it. Hopefully he does not really know what he has. For some reason this bike is sticking in my head. I can not stop thinking about it. I hate knowing it is just sitting out there being neglected further when it should be in my garage getting the
"love and attention" it deserves.
Wish me luck in my quest to acquire this CB750. Here we go again.

Well it is the first year of the dohc. Supposedly the dohc was not as sturdy as the sohc but others disagree. If it is in crappy shape, offer maybe $200. Without pics, we cant say much

I bought an 81 last summer that had been seating out for 4 years. cleaned the tank, cleaned carbs,put in new gas and a battery and now it is running now.Just make sure it is not locked up. Dannie

 Thanks for the replies. It is in kinda crappy shape, but like I said the friggin bike is stuck in my head. It is driving me nuts knowing it is sitting out in the open.

Being that it is close by and could be had cheap enough,it may be something to tinker with but like danny said....make sure it kicks over first.It still ain't no SOHC but maybe later,you can make some kinda swap and get an older SOHC.If you don't,these guys here might give you some #$%*!!!....good luck on your decision.

Is it an "F" model, or the "K"?  I like the F styling a little bit more for that year range of CBs.  The F's all had triple disc brakes (the later years have dual piston calipers all around=serious brake power), mag wheels ("Comstar" rims, the 1979 model is the only year the DOHC bikes had silver colored ones) and I like the body work too. 

Certainly a different look than the SOHC.  I started with DOHC CB's, and now have a SOHC- it took me a while to get used to it, but now I love them both.  I waver back and forth, but lately I like the looks of the SOHC model a little more.  DOHC motors are fun too, just different 'tis all.  I love the carburators on the DOHC CB's- vacuum cylinders are cool (a lot of folks disagree I'm sure!) and they look awesome when the caps are highly polished up.
