CL360 Kickstarter question
« on: August 25, 2006, 11:02:11 AM »
Well I bought a bike for my Fiancee to get started riding.  It's a CL360 Scrambler and it's in GREAT shape.  Other than tires and a battery, it's ready to hit the road.

I just discovered a problem though.  The kickstarter will start the engine, but won't return to vertical when used, and when it's in the down position and the engine starts, there is a rapid clicking/whirring noise comign from there as if the kickstart pawls aren't retracting.

I think the return spring isn't returning and the pawls aren't retracting.  How to fix it?  Do I have to split the case?

I am not sure about the 360.  on a cb 550 four it is a pain even if you have small fingers and you have to drop the oil pan.   I really do not think you would need to split the case on a 360 though.

Is there a CL360?

In the CB350 twin, you don't have to. You just empty the oil and remove the clutch cover (right side) to get access to the spindle and the return spring. Maybe it has just jumped out of the recess. To me it seems hard to break.

FYI    I upgraded my headlite (76 cb360) to a halogen.   Used a lite assembly from a 83 shadow.  Was a little smaller but shimed each side out some.  Had to make room for the brake line but works.
Now I have a nice chrome steel bucket instead of the black plastic pos.  I only kickstart so charging hasent been a prob.

I can dig in the shop manual tomorrow and find out for you...
