Now that I have seen the pictures I recognize Jonesy, I assume that is him standing by the bike, and I remember seeing the man standing right behind him. I am sure that I probably walked right by a few of you and did not even know it. Not on purpose mind you. Actually I was away from my bike a lot. I really enjoyed looking at ALL the different styles and types of bikes that were represented at Holly. Also my eating machine of a teenage son was guess what? You got it he was hungry again :o :o That boy can put it away. Also I am have a somewhat hard time just walking up to anyone and starting a conversation. My pops and his wife are pretty seclusive people, so I kinda got a big dose of that growing up. Plus I raised a lot of hell and made my poor old parents grow old way before their time so I spent a lot of time grounded at home and suspended from school. Did you guys happen to see that chopper that had the green paint with the skulls in it? I liked the paint job on "that" bike. Not much of a chopper lover but that paint job took some time. I can appreciate the time and effort that was put into that bike. Yes I know a lot of the hardware is bolt on, but it still took some effort to put it all together in a package and make it look nice.
The ride there and back was great. No problems what so ever. My back side did get a bit sore/numb after a while. We took about 5 rest stops each way. The stock foam leaves a little to be desired on the longer rides. My son did remarkably well for his first long bike ride ever.
Holly will definitely be on my to do list for next year. Don't go all nuts on me now, but I am really wanting to bring my piece of Brit iron next time. It should be very close to being done by then. Sorry but I love my British bike just as much as I love my Honda. If the British bike is not done then I will gladly ride my Honda out there again.
Sorry about the novel.
Bruce

Racing33, I saw and recognized your bike off to my right, but couldn't put bike and rider together - then it was gone.

I counted eight SOHCers checked at Holly, (myself, Jonsey and Cynthia, gar, hootle, cmorgan, racing33, jgary) but I met only three - of course we will try again. With kids growing up I have a little more time for this kind of stuff, not quite enough to tear this CB down and give it a proper resto, but enough to enjoy a nice ride occasionally. I came late to Holly and left early - only to see Tigers lose. We were lucky to have a nice day Sunday, mostly wet and cold lately. I think September and October are the best weather months in Michigan, but not so far.

Kevin,

I agree. Even the best of years, this period is much too short. I finally finished the big basement project that really ate into riding time this summer (but well worth it ;)) so I've been trying to make up for lost time. Not so good so far, may have to be riding with my Long Johns on to make up the miles.  ;D

I was a late arrival too.  I got a late start and took the side roads getting there about 2:15-2:30.  Took an hour more than estimated two, what a surprise.  I walked the streets and checked out the displays.  I looked for SOHC4 hondas and only found one parked on an alleyway.  The ride out there was awsome with some nice winding roads through scenic woods and farmlands.  I was disappointed at not seeing anyone and departed Holly about 2:45-3:00.  I probably passed some of you guys on the roads as there were more bikers out than I had seen all summer.
I am going to see if it is permisable to wear a hat with iron on letters "SOHC4" like the baseball caps we had in the service.

Take Care

Man Bruce, I just can't get this image of your 6'4" kid on the back of your 650 out of my mind..in my mind, he looks like a big grasshopper! Hey, I know, when you come to stops, have him put HIS feet down, and you can keep yours on the pegs!

I wish I had a video of the ride there and back because I'll bet you are right on about the grasshopper thing. His butt was pretty sore by the time we got home, he never complained though. My youngest son gets to go on the next long ride, and that might be the Blessing of the Bikes. I know that is the one the younger son wants to go on anyways.
I figure I spent 6 wonderfull hours on the seat of that bike between the trip there and the trip back. I was very impressed with the bike though. Why do people treat the cb650 like a bastard child of the SOHC4's. I think the bike performed very well. We averaged a speed of between 65 and 75mph there and back.
I will never forget merging onto I-75 to get to the Holly exit. I merged at a respectable 72mph and became aware of the fact that if I did not pick up the pace a little more that i was going to get ran over. That highway travels FAST.

I've never been either. It's up north in the spring...another one is the Midnight ride from GR to the Mackinaw Bridge...supposedly thatere are usually about 2000 bikes riding en masse to the bridge in the middle of the night!

 neckyzips,
I will try to go by the sec. of the state and grab those forms for you tomorrow ;D If I get them I will put them in the mail to you on the following day.
Blessing of the Bikes is a gigantic event, more bikes of every style than I have ever seen in one place. I believe it is every March or April. Not to sure as it has been forever since I have been to that. People from all over the states come to this event.

Necky: You can download, fill in and print the forms here:

The BIG blessing of the bikes takes place in Baldwin, MI. I went to it 2 years ago. Almost 10,000 bikes cram into the municipal airfield. It's sooo cool to hear them all rev up together after the blessing!

My son, almost age 6, and I were walking back from the UM-MSU soccer game this past Sunday, when he shouts out, "Look dad, it's a Honda!".  750 SuperSport, Comstar wheels (does that make it a 79?).  Ann Arbor souvenir (parking ticket) stuck between the seat & tank.  Great looking machine.  Does it belong to anyone here?

Dude, it's high 60's right now. Snow? No way. I'm gonna go ride again in a minute.

Yup! Today, here, it's in the mid-upper 50's, and cloudy, Tomorrow, rain, Wed. Rain and colder, Thurs. 90% chance of snow, and they're saying possibly several inches! Back into the 50's and 60's by the weekend...I have somewhere I have to go early on Saturday and Sunday, but it's supposed to be in the 30's!

Don't take the A2 Police for granted, they seem to have too much time on their hands. Back on Aug. 27 I was taking our very old bassett to the vet for what I thought might be here last trip.  :( I was sitting at the light on Stadium and Main to make a left and there was a cop behind me. The light turned green, I turned and moved to the right lane figuring he was on his way someplace. Instead, he moved over behind me and a few seconds later, on go his lights. I pull over. He comes to the driver side and says, "Mr. Wessner, is your birthday Aug. 3? I say, yes. He asks for my license and registration.

My fault, I had become dependant on the Sec. State reminder in the mail to renew and generally just do it on-line. I either missed it, or is was mis-delivered elsewhere. Unfortunately, this was the forth year on my license as well, so it too expired on Aug. 3. I hadn't done anything wrong. I fugure he just saw the Aug. tag, and it being the 27th, took a chance an ran my tag at the light.  >:(

I went to court on the registration and it cost me $75. I had pleaded guilty on both, but the judge suggested I plead not guilty on the license, go before another judge at a later date and try to get the $150/year penalty, for two years waived. The fine for the license is $100. >:(

Needless to say, I now have reminders on Outlook for all the registrations and licenses in the house.
