First Ride....
« on: August 24, 2006, 02:28:47 PM »
Well, after getting the battery all charged up. Bike running well, although a little rich. I just could not help myself and took the old girl out for a quick spin through the neighborhood. Bike runs awesome, however, looks like I'll be tearing her down as second gear seems to grind like dogs not engaging. Kick it up into third and all is well. Just no drive in second. I guess I will have to use the original gearbox. Any advice will be appreciated. Nice ride though, this will just give me the opportunity to clean her up.

Once this is fixed, I might have to sell the yzf600.

welcome, you have found the right bike (although a little big) and the right place to learn how to keep it running.  so let me be the first to say it...

PICS!

enjoy the ride

You are right, it does seem a little large. That being said, if I want to carve up a twisty back road, the YZF comes in handy. But now that I am past 40, I seem to be slowing down a little. Car track days are more my speed. Nice protective shell. I just want to cruise when I ride. I will post pics when I get her painted. Here is one from last week. A wee bit unsightly. Just wanted to get her running right before I cleaned her up.

seems like maybe you have a white 750 and live somewhere in the southern hemisphere where it is snowing right now.

seriously though, people here like to see the nasty befores as well as the TLCed afters, so get that unsightly thang up in here...

if you don't mind

Welcome to the insanity of (caused by) owning a SOHC4. ;)  Post the before then we will be able to see the difference with the after.

Hi, F-I plus K-7 fuel tank. I've been hearing that F-I and II's 2nd is pretty weak. I think your bikes synchromesh is wornout. How many miles do you have?

Not really sure about the miles. Odometer says 31k. But the motor in the bike is an 836. I do have the original motor and gearbox, the PO said second is a little worn. But that the original is fine. He even suggested swapping in the old gearbox. I have to read the manual to see what is involved.

Is that a K7 tank? What are the advantages and disadvantages of this tank. Larger capacity? I was going to rebuild the old motor just to have as a spare.

Thanks for the info. I would not even would have noticed that.
