Will an answer from a Canadian in Calgary, Alberta, Canada be acceptable?

Try this site and check back regularly. They talk about a "Centenary Legends Lap".

http://www.iomtt.com/

My wife is from the Island and we are planning to be over for the whole thing. Our nephew is getting married in Leeds on June 1 and we hope to be back in time for the first race on Saturday the 2nd. I usually try to avoid the TT. Too many drunk Germans filling up the Pubs and riding like vent holes. I prefer the Manx Grand Prix which is on right now. However, it is just too much to miss the TT next year.

I understand that if you are taking a bike or car over, you need to book on the Steam Packet today. Not tomorrow but today!

I will be at the Railway Inn in Union Mills for the Superstock on Monday the 4th if you can make it. Look for the old guy with the skin tight haircut!

I'll also be over on the Island Mick I'll be in Laxey for beer and camping or Creg-N-Bar for the racing most of the time...your right about the Germans I don't mind them getting pissed but they forget what side of the road they should be on ..scarey stuff on the way back from the pub when they come at you flat out!

It might even be too late now to find accommodation for next year...

The biggest bummer of it all is that since NASCAR tv bought Speedvision we have lost the tv coverage, even in post-race highlights form. So us mere mortals who can't afford to go will miss out completely... pause for GHOF to cry in beer.

Time to resurrect your thread Mick.

I tried to book the trip in Dec but couldn't get med insurance, lost interest and put the whole thing away. Then Air Canada came out with dirt cheap fares, I tried again, got kick butt coverage and saved $1000 on the airfares. The trip and the "rush" is back on! The Lord works in mysterious ways, doesn't she??

I fly in to IOM from Manchester on Sunday evening June 3, leave at the end of the month and no one in the family has booked anything yet! Any chance that we could set up a club meeting?

What is everyone's itinerary so we can determine a date, time and place? I'll check with "Slarty.." the Manxman, to get him into the loop.

Here's the race schedule: http://www.iomtt.com/Calendar.aspx

I count you Mick, biffta, MikeDeB and his four friends, Slarty the Manxman and myself. 9 of us should be able to raise a quorum and a couple of pints, eh?

Is anyone else going that we can include???

Marty

They always have a vintage bike meet at Ramsey and I think they also have the sprint on the same day, could be a good place to meet up for a few pints!  ;D

Hey, great. Let's book up for the 5th. The Sprints run 9-5 and the Vintage display from 11-4. I'll send you contact info soon as I know what relative I will inflict myself on.

I have a friend in a guitar forum that leaves in the IOM and he has invited me over to his house during the TT. I plan to stay there three or four days during race week, as I have never met the guy and I don't want to be an annoyance. It is going to be an interesting experience to say the least.

Hi everyone thats trying to get to the 2007 TT. I will do what ever I can to help out. so just let me know. These facts to date may help you:-

1) The only route to get a bike over to the island is the Steam Packet and although I live here 50% of the time and have booked months ago to get my Yahama GTS 1000 over here I cant get a decent crossing but I have got one booked.  It gets me here a couple of days before practice week and leaves a couple of days after the last race. Normally they would have confirmed the actual cost by now but as yet none of us know how much its going to cost!
May be I smell a rat and call me synical but knowing the Steam "Racket" they could be waiting to see just how much they can screw us for! Anyways if you just think of trying to get here on a bike book now!!! There has been talk of them renting a couple more boats which, you would think makes good business sense however this is the isle of man!! So book and phone to move it nearer the dates you want later on.

2) Another option, I am riding over 2 or 3 bikes for mates 1 or 2 months before then will put the bikes in my heated double garage, getting them back over to the UK will be done 2 weeks to 1 month after the TT. I dont know if you would want you precious KO in my hands but I do commute on the ferry on mine!!

3) Yet another idea, I have 6 monkey bikes to bring over in my estate car, again I'll store them in my garage.  The guys are then flying over or comming as foot passengers on the ferry. They could not get the crossings for the bike bikes but figured TT would be a laugh on the monkeys anyway.

4) Accomodation is the real problem, I know lots of people are just comming with tents and gong to camp anywhere they can.  The island has demolished a lot of the older "hotels" to make way for upmarket flats which have not sold!! I am doing my best to find places for people.  If you let me know what you are looking for, arrival/departure dates and numbers of people I can check out  my contacts.

5) Check out the links for travel below, and let me know who needs help getting here, I can arrange meet ups etc whatever I can do to help just lets me know, dont hold back thinking I cant ask!!!! The sooner folks tell me what they want the sooner I'll get the info back plus you really cant miss this one especially as my KO will be in the classic parade!!

Thanks Graham,

I am okay for accommodation with all the family there but others may need help. I also hope to have wheels to get around. There is an accommodation forum on the iomtt.com site that seems to have lots of activity.

We booked Euromanx as the boat is booked out, with a few exceptions, from the 27th of May to June 4. Obviously, no bike as carry on with Euromanx! It was interesting that as I was looking at the flights last week, they were selling out!

What's a "monkey bike"?

This might be a foolish question but are their/is their a good quality Isle of Man TT DVD available ?
Maybe from a past race. or something telling about the event as a whole ?

Thanks Graham. Every day brings a new surprise!!! The only problem I have is imagining those out on Mad Sunday!

ProTeal, I received the David Jefferies Story and the 2002 TT DVD's for Christmas. Both are excellent.

If you want you can go to this page on youtube  http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=isle+of+man&search=Search and go down to "Isle of Man:CBR1000". It is a 20 minute ride around the course (37.75 miles long) on a CBR1000 and is very good.  Without getting the pencil out, he has to average around 115 mph and they come to almost dead stop at the Ramsey hairpin and Governor's Bridge so that guy is moving. There are lots of shorter clips of racing and the Island. It is a beautiful spot (on a sunny summer day).

Graham, the only dates I can get for ferry crossings with my bike mean I have to leave my bike parked up on the Island for a few days after racing week ends, I have to get back home for work so I’ve got a flight home on Sunday 10th but I can’t take my bike with me (I did try but the excess baggage was a killer) I don’t really want to leave it on a street so my plan is put my bike into a bike shop for some minor repair (probably a snapped cable or something as simple as that, but at least my bike should be safe) then come back on an evening flight after work and bring it home on a late boat once the back log has been moved,  can you recommend a good bike repair shop that won’t mess up my bike (400F) on the island?

Cheers

I can tell you your bike would be safe left anywhere on the island, there is no bike/car theft to speak of, where are you gonna go!
I leave my 750 KO unlocked all over the island. If you wanted you could leave it at my double locked heated garage in castle town its 20 mins walk to airport £5 taxi and if Im here Ill give you a lift.  All the bike shops are O.K so I'd choose S&S motors in Castletown just so your near the airport. Final option is I can ride your 400 back 2 u as Im across 2 uk every other week.  Its up 2 u mate, whatever I can do 2 help. You can ring me on 07771 754 641

Cheers
Graham
