Just my area of expertise unfortunately!

Look for the CB500 Big Bore kit for 555cc.  It's about a 0.5mm overbore on the 550.  $120 for the set of pistons/rings etc.

I  bought a set of barrels and pistons/rings off ebay for 18.50 USD,  6K miles, perfect  fix for my needs. 400 engine, but I’m sure the same things turns up for a 550. Why pay all that money for the oversize suff? The bike wont go any faster unless you do lots of other work!

I suppose it's peace of mind.  I've had nothing but bad luck with my engines in my 500 and 550.  There's something comforting about having to break in a 30 year old engine all over again.

For $120, you get new pistons, rings, pins, clips and a head gasket.  The 0.5mm overbore is right in Honda specs.  Can't beat the price for the parts.  Granted, if you could find a 6K mile setup from someone you trust, then go for it.

Thanks for the info. Just wondering though, would the 605 kit with the new sleeves work or am i being too greedy?

I remember someone on here say that the sleeves in the 550 will bore out to except 750 pistons so the 605 kit should be OK.  Other wise just have the 605 sleeves fitted to your 550 block then bored and honed for the pistons.
