I replaced the OEM regulator/rectifier (RR) with an after market solid-state unit that mounts just underneath the battery compartment, which is plastic. Heat from the RR melted the battery compartment and dripped onto the RR, which is no longer working. Can anyone share the success or problems you've had with replacement RR units and, in particular, this heat problem? I was shocked to find the damage and am concerned about possible explosions or fire from the hot battery (in addition to replacing the RR).
