Need help finding headlamp
« on: October 06, 2013, 03:32:26 PM »
Hey all, I'm new to the forum and to the 73 CB500.  I'm looking for this headlamp.  Is it even Honda?  Trick is I have built a bobber using a box of parts.

It looks like the original headlight. Stanley 7" In an emergency a car headlight can be used a bike headlight has a better light pattern.

Alright thanks, any idea where to find one?  I can't find them online at all.  I find plenty that will fit and work but don't have the tabs for the bolts to hold it steady.

Mine is about 6.5 inches in diameter.  However the tabs that I was speaking of don't seem to match up with the ones in my image, maybe they do and are just bigger.  Does Stanley 001-1047 ring a bell?

Turns out that I have a Kawasaki light setup.  Gonna find some OEM and go with an HID

It's hard to see in the pic. So the tabs don't remove from the glass?

No they don't.  They're pare of the sealed backing.  Weird right?  The Stanley part number leads me to Kawasaki parts.  Even then however I can't find one with the tabs/brackets on the metal backing sealed to the glass

I bought a new complete headlight and bucket from Fleabay for £25. It's listed for Yam RD/LC but does the job perfectly.

Do you still want sealed beam? I went with a Hella H4 halogen conversion kit when my last sealed beam died. Got it on amazon.

Lester, going with a new bucket and something more modern would be a long term solution, good suggestion.  No, I don't have to stay with a sealed beam.  I'll check out hella's kit

That should do the job. But unfortunately, it's a car headlamp designed to be used in pairs. The motorcycle headlamps have an altered beam pattern designed to illuminate the road in the same pattern as a pair of car lamps and have the word Motorcycle embossed on the glass.

This is the one I used, just had to remove some of that blocky bracket thing at the rear of the bucket.
Not from that particular seller though.

Alright, again I am new to the CB500, terminology for things, etc. completely.  This is my bucket, along with the mounting brackets, holes for screws etc.  Pictures of the headlamp is at the top of post.  The pictures of the headlamps in the links we first discussed don't seem to match up with my tabs which has led me to believe my sealed headlamp/bucket isn't Honda at all.  Correct?  So let's go with a bucket that supports my brackets, and the bulb/light that goes with it.  You guys may have already shown me those answers.  Basically an entire "light kit".  And if at all possible, one that will support HID in the future.

The beam from the light in DimeCity link may have a crap spread. I had one with the same reflector arrangement and I couldn't use it at night. In fact I was told by the MOT tester not to use it at night.

I'll tell you now, the beam from the light in DimeCity link will have a crap spread. I had one with the same reflector arrangement and I couldn't use it at night.

Alright.  What's a better suggestion?
