BMW R50/5
« on: October 08, 2013, 08:20:41 AM »
On Saturday my wife had to take yet another teachers test (they are endless).  She asked that I wait in the truck while she takes the test.  The test is kinda far from home and she is nervous to drive that far alone.  Being the good husband I am, I take her.

While waiting for her I go on line with my iPad and find a 1970 BMW R50/5 for sale, local to where the test is being held.  I figure I've got time, why not go take a look.  When my wife is done the test she comes outside and see my new bike in the back of the truck.  I guess I'm not good with idle time.

Did you give her one of those, "Honey! I don't know what happened!? I was just sitting here minding my own business, waiting for you - my lovely wife - to finish your test, when all of a sudden it just jumped into the back of my truck!!! :o :o

This bike is 24 HP so it would have to be a Cafe'-Slow-Racer.  Not a chance I would hack it up.  As for the price, the guy wanted $2500 but we settled on $1800.

Nice find. I always had a soft spot for those earlier model BMW's. Smooth and quiet. Guess I was never into fast and loud.  ;)

I didn't buy ot for speed so the 24hp is OK.  I bought it because it was cool looking and I had never owned a BMW.  So it seemed like a good excuse to buy one.
