another airbox thread
« on: October 05, 2013, 09:13:07 am »
I'm wondering about airbox mods. Before I play with jetting. I have a 750K0 with an 836, cammed and a mildly ported head. It has a stock K4 airbox now and 130 mains, clip one slot down on the needle. Not sure about the pilot jet at the moment.
I have a Reproduction K0 airbox from DSS. I'm wondering if changing to the K0 airbox will make any flow differences and maybe a K&N filter?

Don, several years ago I installed a K & N filter in my K3 box with a few added 1/4-inch holes in the bottom, upped the mains to 120s, installed a 4-1 header, and almost had as much power as my stock K0 from 0 to about 90..........then the cam showed its weakness.

My brother-in-law put an 836-kit in his K4 along with a performance cam and Barnett clutch. Otherwise the bike is stock, including pipes and air-box.  It ran poorly until I put a K& N in it, reduced the jets, drilled the holes, and installed iridium plugs. The air-boxes with the F on the side may breath a little better, but the extra holes seem to help. I like how the K0 box looks, but it does not breath as well.

Thanks, I would have thought the K) box was better. I will get the K&N.
I spent a small fortune on the K&N scoop on my dragster, it's carbon fiber and has a cone shaped filter. It's supposed to work better than a velocity stack or even a flat filter.

Well, it has a scoop in the front and a big hole in the back. I'm going with it before I re-jet.
