Random Info about Tires/Tyres
« on: October 14, 2013, 01:30:58 PM »
I have a buddy here in town who works for Cooper Tire in Findlay, OH (about an hour south of Toledo) -- we got to BSing about the buyout that Cooper is currently going through, and I found out that they own the company that makes Avon in England and Cheng Shin in China (although they are still technically separate businesses).  Kind of crazy.  Not sure if that was common knowledge, but it was neat to learn.  I asked him if he could find out any info about the Cheng Shin tires as far as compounds and how they compare to other tires -- he said he'd look into it!  He's also looking into whether he can get me a discount :) ;)

I think there might be some confusion between Cheng Shin AKA Maxxis and Chengshan,

Cheng Shin is in Tiawan or the Republic of China.

They operate under the Maxxis banner.

Cooper had a Chinese division known as Chengshan Rubber (Shangdong) in the Peoples Republic of China.

Also they had a partnership with Kenda which is in Taiwan.

Convoluted I know.........

Cooper is/was being bought by Apollo out of India.....but I think the deal is falling apart

Ahhhh gotcha.  Yeah he said things are all F'd up.  Idk if I should repeat it what he told me though.  :/  but yeah, if they don't come to an agreement we may be getting some super-discounted tires. :(  would be a huge blow to the already precarious Ohio economy, though.
