The drag bike is a honda frame, the two lower tubes over the motor are totally gone. The fiberglass tank is missing it has a cool seat, struts on the back I think wire wheels and a slick. The header got sold in the auction I'm kinda hosed over that. Kehen carbs no stacks of anything an ARD mag and not much else. The kids said 1200cc. Anyone else I would doubt it but this guy when alive was no BS'er. If he said it you could take it to the bank.  I'm thinking I might make a false tank and put the real one inside.  It aint much and I overpaid but after scoring the sandy I had the fever.  To be honest It was dark and I couldn't see much.

Im not talking dollars but all the old bike guys were confused when they couldn't find the build date and serial number on the right side. One old boy went around and read the numbers to the other guys, nobody said a word. It is titled as a 70, I think that threw them off.
I was talking to a guy that buys and sells a lot of bikes, he was talking about a guy that has a few sandcasts. I figured he knew. A friend that owns a shop was there, he owns a sandie and him and I talk a lot. I was sure he knew what it was. When the bidding started there were 4 of us, the guy that owns the shop didn't bid against me. There was a relative of the deceased owner, he only went to a thousand then it was me and the bike guy left to the end. At one point I hesitated and thought about my bid for a second and went right back in, He went another hundred and quit. for a few seconds I almost bid again I thought he was in but it stopped there. Iwas under my goal enough to buy the drag bike too. The family was shocked it went that high, that's why I got a look at the drag bike.

Don how did you come across this bike? Any pics?

The guy that had it was a friend. He did a little work on my bikes before I started doing it. I used to ride my 70 and 76F over to show them off . He showed me the sandcast and let me look it over to see the cable routing and wires etc. Later he got ALS and passed away a few months ago. He had asked me about selling it on E bay, I had no experience selling and I was uneasy about making an offer. He never really rode it or even put it in his name. The po was his friend that died and he bought it from the widow.  Title wise it's a 1 owner.

Thank you for understanding. I did OK. The next guy probably won't do as well. ;)

For now I'm enjoying looking it. it's cleaning up better than I had hoped. Under the dirt there was wax on the paint, all in the emblems and cracks etc. The chrome may have been WD40'd All the grunge that looked like pitts just wipes off. What I thought was rust on the 4-2 came off with my fingernail. 4-4 is better but I'm not whining.

Mid 5,000 serial number sandcast. Nice condition, no rust or wrecks, low miles, well maintained, 2 owner,  needs rear rim, correct handlebars, cables and brake hose and an oil side sidecover. Candy red. Not for sale yet but I want to be ready.  A price range would be helpful.
Too bad many of us cannot see it.

This is a great story. Good luck with the restoration. I hope once it's all done you ride the piss out of it and don't let sit in some garage collecting dust.

Pretty cool that you know some of the history of the bike prior to owning it, even cooler to have won a friends bike like that. I'd feel good if one of my bikes ended up going to a friend and was well taken care of if I came into hard times or wasn't around to enjoy it any longer.

The friend that owns a bike shop knew the first owner and his wife. If she's still around, I'm going to check to see if there any pictures.

I'm going to pick up the drag bike this afternoon. It's just a 73 Honda frame stripped down and a bored/stroked 750 engine, kiehen carbs, no pipes and struts on the stock swingarm. I asked for a picture if they can find one. Otherwise I'm going to guess.
