yep - second rack works fine.

ghost in the original set of carbs.

Now I get to paint one kids' room, help my neighbor replace our shared fence, clean the garage, then back to work on Mon for some R&R from this "time off"

I'll look at those cabs again someday when I have spare time  ::)

Thanks for the suggestions.

Time for 3 fingers of Glenfiddich.

Swap both jets between #1 and another carb body and see if the problem follows the jets.  Maybe when cleaning the jets one somehow got damaged.  If the problem follows the jets then switch one at a time, e.g. idle jet only and see which one soots up.

If it doesn't follow the jets then switch some other brass parts and see.

Best of luck!  Also glad you had a spare set so you can let this sit a while

Sucks it had to come to that grumpy. I felt stupid for wasting so much time when I tried figuring out my set. So much easier to swap the bodies when you have a set and you've tried the obvious things. Live and learn I guess :/
At least this means you'll be back on the road! :)

Not sure if it was mentioned but the needle jet could be improperly seated or in upside down. They look like they could go in either way but definitely are not symmetrical top to bottom. The one side has the correct angled bore to match the needle.

That or maybe the clip on your needle isn't resting in slide as it should holding the needle up to high (aka rich?).

Just some more thoughts. Hope you figure it out whatever it is.

My only other thought is maybe one of the passages that is supposed to be blocked off permanently with a brass plug or whatever they use is somehow leaking.

It's not a paper filter, Lucky. Paper filters don't get oiled. If you did oil one, it would certainly cause problems, but it would affect all four cylinders.

My mistake I should have said filter NOT paper filter. You are right.

Hey Grumpy!

Did you ever track #1 down?
