Then I took my cut off wheel and started de-tabbing the frame of all the tabs that wouldn't be used. Here's a few before shots.

Got the frame all ready to paint. I used degreaser, walnut media blast, and a steel wire brush! Then I primed it with rust converter, mainly for the hard to reach spots.

Next I top coated the frame with a good gas resistant black gloss enamel. I think it turned out pretty good for rattle cans. I let the paint cure for a couple weeks before I started hanging parts back on it.

I took my rims to a local coatings company and had them sand blasted and powder coated. He used the nearest thing to chrome you can get in powder coat. They actually look  more aluminum than chrome. Then I cleaned my hubs with a wire wheel and coated them myself with Glisten PC. The spokes I bought were stainless steel. So I took the spokes, hubs, and rims down to the local aftermarket shop to get the wheels professionally laced and new rubber mounted and balanced. I was afraid the three slightly different colors would look funny. But when I got the wheels back, I was quite pleased. They really came out looking great. Good thing too, I spent more on the wheels than any other component on the bike including the motor!

I rebuilt the front forks by cleaning out forty years of gunk and installing new seals.

I rebuilt the front brake master cylinder and caliper. Painted the caliper with high temp caliper paint.

The top of the forks were too ugly to go bare, so I painted and reused the upper fork covers/headlight brackets. got the rear shocks and forks on.

Put on my new handlebars from DCC. They are clubman type bars, but not as low as the usual clubman. I think they are just right! I also mounted the clutch lever/master cylinder. The stainless steel brake line in the photo was later replaced with one a little longer. This was because the bars weren't as low as standard.

The foot pegs were bent pretty bad. Had to use the oxy torch to straighten them out. Some fresh paint and new rubber made them nice again.

I put on the front fender, brake caliper and center stand. Then bled the front brake. Starting to look like a motorcycle!

I had to have a way to hide/mount my electrics since I de-tabbed the frame. I like that open look behind the carbs, especially since this bike came missing the factory airbox and I had to use pods anyway. So I found this kitchen drawer organizer at Walmart, and with a little modifying, I had a neat little basket to put the electrics in under the seat. There wasn't enough room under the hump for the battery AND the electrics, so I just put the battery there.
