Hello from the next generation
« on: October 13, 2013, 10:37:45 AM »
Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself!
I've lurked around the forum for a while inspired by all the hard work and beautiful results. Motorcycle building is truly an art. I've also been riding for about a year. I have a Honda Nighthawk CB250 that has served me well, but I've always had a love for the old Honda CB's.

I got incredibly lucky because my uncle (who now rides a modern BMW) was more than happy to get rid of his finicky old 1978 CB550K that was taking up space in his garage. The 550 is a GREAT bike. Its in decent shape but needs a little love. I am more than willing to give it that TLC. I plan on cleaning it up and getting it running a little more reliably than it is now.

It already has drag bars and a Kerker 4-into-1 exhaust on it but I plan on giving it a flatter seat (maybe all the way to brat style?) It currently has Uni pod filters on it but I have the original airbox. I have read that the 550 doesnt run well with pods so I might switch back to the air box. I would love any advice, tips, knowledge, long-winded stories of days of yore, or stupid ideas you may have.

Thanks a lot!

P.S. some of you may notice a similar post on DTT. I'm on both, trying to get as much help as I can get!

They're only finnicky if you don't know how to work on them  ;D  Too bad for your uncle. Good for you.

Welcome! Looks like you scored there. Do the basic tuneup stuff service the brakes and forks, make sure the tires are good and ride!
