I rode the CBX then came home and rode the CA78. Now there is an extreme.

The clearance is close due to a 2.75/18 tire. Stock was a 2.50/18. With the rims being wider and a zero offset when lacing the wheel I was a bit concerned.

Wow, that does look close! Don't ride through any mud...I once jammed the front fender on my frat father's CB160 (in college days) when I rode it thru a park with my girl on the back, and ran thru some mud. The front wheel skidded to a stop when it picked up a piece of rock in the mud and hit the rear of the fender, and I almost dropped his bike (at least, that's what I told him: 'almost...'). "She" bounced off of me, over the taillight, and ended up ankle-deep in the mud. Boy, was she mad!

No worries. Yes, it's closer in the front. Rest is fine.

Going with it as I don't want to put anymore into it. I do have a 2.50/18 tire if I have issues. Once the tank, seat and side covers are on it should tame the front end down a bit.

Thanks Steve. I think it will tame down a bit when the tank, seat and side covers are on. Don't want to put anymore into it if I can help it.

No, I dropped the left lower leg and it had to be repainted. 

Gave me time to reflect and decide I'm tired of doing these builds. Going to thin the heard and maybe in the Fall purchase something new. Keeping the CBX for the road and something nimble for the street.

Decision made. Going to replace the front tire with a 2.50/18 next week. Should be about 1/4 inch less if my math is correct.

Have one in the shed brand new so it will just be the shop cost. No biggie.

CB160 is gorgeous tt, you do very nice work. Hope you are going to ride her some before selling her. She's a beauty and a fun bike. You might sell the Dream and keep her.

Well, with the help of the other half we swapped out the front tire without removing the fender. Yankee engineering at it's best.

It was not a win, win situation and as I expected the tire would look small for the rim width. The mechanic said it looked like a Mexican wheel. Paint it white.

I lmfao because he is in fact Hispanic. Gotta love the guy.



There is way better clearance now so I'll just live with it. Not doing another wheel. Period. Leaving the 3.00 on the rear. Not messing with that either.

That now looks appropriate and right for that bike.  (Probably will handle better too.)

I remember people commenting how the one I used to own looked to have tiny tires on it; but that's what they had originally.  It is after-all a small motorcycle by most of today's standards, and besides fat tires weren't the norm of the day.  It isn't a modern sport bike.

I agree HN. The tire looks small compared to the rim width but now there is clearance.

No, no mud riding here but anybody who lives in the West knows rocks and gravel all to well. I could just see a nice size rock wedged in the tread will no where to go. 

Just might ruin a nice painted fender. Or me.

Finished up the handle bars with new grips, levers and OEM mirrors.



Waiting....still waiting....on carburetors.  That's all that is left to do other than fine tune. Oh, and license.

Nice bike, sold my '66 cb160 last summer, always like the look of it. They sure weren't looking to save weight when they made the seat!!!

Ask the guys who race the cb160 if you should keep her? They can be made to give you lots of smiles and will do so in stock form. I looked like a circus bear on my little Parakeet Yellow Passport C70 but it was a fun year in Tucson and I wouldn't trade it. My daughter wants the bike to commute to work in Columbus.

I was trying to identify the Honda in the following picture (my dad was stationed in Iwakuni, Japan in 1960).  I think it's a JC58 Benly (not imported here), but I thought you might be better at making an id.

I don't think that I am an expert on the matter but I believe you are correct.  The Japanese market  got lots of cool bikes.  The CB92 and CB 95 made it here in limited numbers. Would love to have either and the windshield on the 92 was a small sport screen.  Nice bike your Dad had. Thanks for sharing the photos. - David

So far this is what I have received.

Believed to be a two stroke. Possibly a Yamaha YC-1-175.

Carburetors are back and installed!





Installed new throttle cable. Turns out it was to long so had to use the original. Another flea bay listing gone South.

If you need a throttle and front brake cable for a CL 160 I have them.



Set the slides with a 1/8 inch drill bit.



Installed with new O rings. Very hard to find the manifold side but my supplier found me two.



Installed new left air filter and clamp. Still looking for a right air filter although the one I have is not that bad.



Hook up the aux. tank and fine tune. Drain the fuel tank, rinse with gasoline, install. Run new fuel lines.

Should finish by late today. Road test tomorrow.
