The stock rim is 1.565 inches inside.

The DID rim is 1.852 inches which corresponds to the marking on the rim.



Difference of .287 which is not much.

Thank you for your e-mail. Sorry I’m not able to advise if these spokes and your hub will lace correctly with this DID rim. Can you be sure the rims currently fitted are standard when coming out of the factory as new? If you don’t think it will work then I would advise you to return them for refund.

They would be 7 mm wider but should clear the fender. Options? Try to find the right rims. Thoughts?

I understand. I was called and this was discussed at DS before I ordered them. Not sure what I'm going to do. Might return them and shop for a narrower rim.

Started on the rear wheel early this morning.



Laced the inner spokes off a couple of holes so we tried again.



And everything went into place.





Then I put it on the swing arm for a decision.







I talked with DS via email and can return rims without the 20% restock fee. Would just cost shipping. I'm working on the stock rim to see how it will clean up. If acceptable then the wheel will be taken apart and I'll lace again.

What do you guys think? (feedback please)

I know stock is always better but they do look good and 7mm gives the wheel a little "pop".

The stock rim is cleaning up nicely Greggo with the exception of a few areas.

Could be a good debate and I can see both sides. The new rim looks fantastic, but an OEM would be more correct.   Sounds like you are unable to obtain one?
If this were a sandcast, value would come into play, but this baby 160, I don't think so.
Keep the new rim.

BTW - similar situation on my Z1.  Had to replace the stupid 16" Harley rear wheel, OEM not available. Could have found a decent used one but would have never looked new. Bought a new DID and no regrets.

Here is where I stand.

This is not a restoration. Given that do the new rims "look out of place" with the rest of the bike? Well, yes they do.

Lacing the old rim with new spokes look acceptable? Yes, it's 48 years old and adds to the charm of old Honda's.

I'm leaning towards taking apart the new rim and returning. Geez, it's not suppose to be this much brain overload.

You already have the new rim laced up, it fits fine, and only the most eagle eyed afficianado of CB160's would know that it is a bit wider than stock.

If it doesn't bother you and doesn't impact value then I would leave it be and sell the other rim to someone that REALLY wants an original rim on their bike. Or, you know, keep it to use on the next CB160 you buy (and you know there will be another one) that has a rusty rim in need of repalcement.

The decision has been made for me. Attempted to clean the front rim before going through all the work on the rear rim.

Not happening. Rust to deep. Spare CB160 not any better but one rim might work. A lot of work just to remove it and add to that more lacing of rims.

The new ones stay. (sorry momo  )

Good choice. The new DID rear rim looks killer, just a touch wider. IMO the bike will look nicer with new rims fore and aft with new tires that are close to the original tread pattern.

It's a great day by golly. 

Found someone local to true the rim. Old Honda dealership guy. He is going to get the offset for me but was thinking that the rim is 7mm wider.

Effect offset or not?

At any rate we can get it close.
