Still to put together the top and bottom of the control then find where the short is, the last thing I want to have to do is cut into the main harness.
Won't the Black & White still short out seeing it's connected to the coils?

If I'm seeing this correctly,  the coils would be a proper "load", not a short. And this would be normal.

Thanks Rick hope you're right, electrics aren't my strong point. If I'd realised about the b&w wire coming from the kill switch I could've saved myself a heap of work by just disconnecting the b&w wire.

It's been a while, had problems with a shorting stator, replaced with another stator and Ricks reg/ rectifier all good now and charging at 14.5v.
Decided also to replaced the old plugs (which were causing problems, not connecting correctly).





Noticed a small oil weep at the left side of the head, either a rubber puck or O ring, I hope it's not the O ring that's inbetween the head and barrels.

Smart move on the connector block & connectors replacement...it really takes that issue out of the equation when troubleshooting. Another thing I have ran into a couple times on cars was the connector was pushing back out of the connector block and it was not readily apparent. It is a real pain in the but to diagnose and sometimes it takes a close look to spot it.

I've been wanting a new bike and have ridden HD Sporty (unimpressed), Full Dresser (too heavy), 2008 Softail Custom (too old), Triumph T120 (a great bike), T100 (needed a 6th gear), Tiger 1050 (didn't like it) and Indian Scout - loved it after riding 20 yards in the dealer parking lot!

Drove to Buderim in Queensland 1,100 kms from me and just bought me a 2016 Indian Scout, 2,400 kms, new Ikon rear shocks and front springs, wire wheels with Metzler White Walls, EJK Power Kit and Crusher Pipes all fitted by previous owner (same age as me and really nice bloke) who said he couldn't get used to the riding position, he had 2 fully restored Triumphs- 1970 Bonneville, X75 Hurricane and a beautiful BSA Rocket 3. He's going to buy the new Triumph Thruxton R.

How do you like your Polaris Indians overall performance? It's a very pretty bike. I've always loved Indians and these are no exception.

I rode 4 HDs and wasn't all that impressed, a bit agricultural in comparison to the Scout's twin overhead cams and all the new engineering.

I also tested the Triumph Tiger 1050- didn't like, the 865 Bonneville - it needed a 6th gear in my opinion. Lastly the Bonneville T120 - 1200 cc water cooled head, but I'm past a sports bike.

That is a great explanation. Lol agricultural. Harley does love that primitive technology. Very cool bike. I don't ride enough to get one and keep my others. Enjoy it!

Here it is registered and on the road, I've had blokes at the lights, car windows wound down and passing comments at me while riding - looks great, looks amazing, I had one of those, good to see a CB500 on the road again etc. etc.

In the photo where it's parked at my daughters place, cars stopping to look and take photos.



Getting ready to go and get a road worthy (blue slip in Oz) certificate.

Well I'm back again and very motivated to fix some problems with the CB500, now with 36 miles on the clock. I know I've been very slack.

I have some oil leaks (main oil seal behind the alternator, head gasket and I think the little O rings on both sides of the barrels top and bottom (where the oil feeds up to the top end) and I need to replace the cam tensioner.

Q. What are the best gaskets to get, as I think I bought cheap gaskets and they've proven to be dodgy.

Q. Can I replace the main seal (very carefully) with out having to pull the engine out of the frame?

I have built a lot of these and have never yet had a problem with any gasket kit but saying that never used Athena, both head and barrel surface need to be flat and clean, original Head gasket has a "Sticky" substance round the oil feed holes and cam chain tunnel,

Bad news is that crank seals have a lip so cases have to be split----Advise you to remove rotor before removing engine BUT are you sure its the crank seal and not the oil gallery plug "O" ring -----DO NOT spin the engine with generator cover of or you will shoot that plug into the darkest recess of your workshop and get a huge oil puddle under the bike. I have seen those plugs fitted backwards causing a leak, the little "Pip" faces outwards and is held by the cover.

What is wrong with the tensioner?
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!

 Thanks Bryan, I poked the seal in after the cases were together, but I think it went in perfectly. The oil gallery had a new plug and o ring.

I'll pull off the cover to see where it's coming from.

I was advised today to put a new gasket kit in it from the barrels up, which I think is a bit of an overkill, the head gasket is definitely leaking (advised to spray the new HG with a copper gasket compound). Also I think I may have the cam chain 1 tooth out!

More to come after I pull off the rocker box and have a look.

I put the old tensioner back in and it won't adjust the chain.
