Where exactly do I measured the oil pump cams. Can someone please advise where I'm meant to insert the .14 feeler gauge. The manual says replace the oil pump if more than .14, but doesn't advise where to measure.

I presume it's as the inner lobe goes past the outer lobe at their respective highest points (see photo)

In the photo the inner lobe is at about 6 o'clock and about to pass the rise of the outer lobe.

Is it at that point where the measurement takes place?

no,more like the position at 9 oclock,even if its a little worn they still pump plenty.

.35mm or .013 inches,sounds like yours is tight enough.

Can someone help me, what am I missing, I've walked away after pulling all apart cleaning, oiling and reassembling I can't see what I doing wrong. There's always tomorrow.

I think I've cracked it, I was trying to install the cogs from the incorrect end.

Can someone please advise does this look right?

Today painted parts, gearbox, cleaned pistons ready.

Gearbox is the hard one and I've misplaced my manual.

Mick those markings you can clearly see on the crank are the ones I was referring to in the other thread. They look like they are all A1 with a 1 on the end, please confirm that.

Also no idea why nobody has mentioned this before but the seat isn't off a 500, the shape of the pan is wrong, the handbook doesn't locate there and there are rubber cushion stops missing. Get some advise before you do any more work on the seat or you may find you've wasted a lot of time and money on something that doesn't fit.

Also one thing I noticed is that non of the cam covers appear to have a rev counter drive fitted. Is this somewhere else in the boxes or are you missing that piece?

Oddjob the crank has all all A1 markings, the seat is (I'm pretty sure) off a 500, I'd removed all the rubbers. But I'll double check.

MIck seat is most definetely not off a CB500K, there are or seem to be 2 seat pans in the pics, neither are even remotely close to being off a 500. The first pic I have no idea what it is, the second is probably off a CB360 as it seems to be stamped with 369 and that's the CB360 model code.

Here's my NOS CB500K1 seat just before I sold it, look at the layout of the rubbers, the placement of the handbook pouch and the place where the hinge bar would go, not there on that pic but you can see the 2 bolts it goes onto.

This is a CB500K2 seat, same layout, only the seat cover pattern changed.

If I had a CB500K0 seat it would be identical except that never got the handbook pouch and the seat lock plunger was much different as it used a different locking system.

Ok some more observations.

You seem to have a CB500K0 frame but the engine isn't. Or at least the engine your using isn't, the K0 frame and engine numbers all started with a 1, the K1 started with a 2 as did the K2. However the clocks seem to be off a K2 as the K0 and K1 used much smaller clocks, nothing at all like your working on. You may need to check to see whether they will fit the top yoke as the K2 used a different mounting plate to accommodate the larger clocks.

It's coming on though, starting to look the part.

Am advised built in '72 and probably registered in '73.

Yeah I read that Mick, I have a copy of Bryans build date list so I was aware of how old it was. My comment was that the bike is a real mongrel of the 500 family ( no offense) frame is a K0 as it begins with a 1 and is about 1 year older than the engine, engine is a K1 and clocks are off a K2. Nothing at all wrong with that and I'm not mentioning the forks
