knock the chunky rust of those rims then soak them in a mollasses mix for a week, youll have to have a container thatll hold the rims, maybe a small childs inflatable play swimming pool?

Thanks for the feedback on rims. I just don't trust them, why put new spokes on these old rims. To chrome them is $130 each in Sydney, new 18" including shipping $150 & 19" rim $160. Not worth the worry using old rims

Got the front wheel retainer undone. The seal had failed and part was still stuck, removed all the bits of seal and a few taps with the hammer on an adjustable spanner used for removing grinding disc.

Next get the bearings out - best tip I've found is a DynaBolt expanded onto the centre of the bearing and then flipping the hub over and using a long bolt or something similar and tap out the DynaBolt along with the bearing see YouTube Motorcycle wheel-bearing replacement
ByMSHAKES.

Also check out this method, a bolt sawn down the middle interesting. http://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=69

Frame back from sandblasting

My thought is 1st coat Rust prevention, 2nd undercoat, 3rd 2 coats of black enamel. Last Spray Black enamel.

Any suggestions about paint would be welcome.

Also, best way to polish up engine casings?

if thats pitted from the sand blast youll have to sand it smoother, you wont get a nice gloss otherwise.

DaveI used a company called http://www.redindustries.com.au - excellent. They told me about the fine sand they use to get a great finish.

When I finish the build, I'll throw it in the back of the van and go to the Great Ocean Rd and go for a ride with my daughters on their bikes.

If I had to replace my rims I would go with aluminum. With some elbow grease they will shine nicely, and they will never rust. A use rim from a 75-77 Goldwing (or the 750 automatice) will work on the front. You will have to buy a new rear however since the GL1000 and the Hondamatic 750 use a 17" rear.

Bankerdanny thanks for the tip however I'm trying to keep it original. I've already purchased a new steel rear 18" rim.

Top coat finished POR15 is amazing paint in 3-5 hours of 1st coat. It looks so good I don't think it'll need a top coat. They claim it sets like a rock, time'll tell.

Picked up the bearings for front and back wheels, what at the sizes of the bearings (prefer tapered rollers) on the top and bottom triple tree? Anybody?

Tripple tree tapers can't be bought by number off the shelf as they are non standard sizes, you have to buy the kit, try all balls or Z1

Any ideas about where to get spokes. Dime City $109 a set plus postage, ouch. Spokes from Thailand - unsure - gold nipples. What about Cad plated or zinc I don't know? Anyone? I rang Z1 has front in zinc but no rear set and Buchanan's cost more than Dime City. Help

Thanks in advance.
