No work on the 500 for the next 2 weeks, away on holidays.

Good news is I'm going for a ride down the Great Ocean Rd.

One of the best bike riding roads in the world, ocean and cliff on the left mountains on the right. Check it out!

Don't laugh Stevo but a my daughter's 250 Honda. I'm on a learners licence and in Australia it restricts you to 250 and under. She's on her Triunph 600 Street Triple!

It'll still be a blast, (Geelong - Lorne - Forrest - Geelong) then return up through the mountains via Forrest (check it out on Google Earth)

Trying not to laugh! I'm sure it will be a blast, and special to ride with your daughter. I'd want the Triple, though.

When you're a father it doesn't matter if your kids have something better than you. In fact you're pleased it's that way. Until you have kids you can't fully appreciate that you prefer them to have the better thing and you're satisfied to see them have it.

After riding again after 35+ years I'm quite happy to take it easy on the 250, although I'm still getting the urge to fang it as in the old days, I still reckon I'll beat the 600 to Lorne.

Thanks Dave, and yes I've heard of Lams approved, I believe the 500 will be ok to ride according to Lams.

The reason I bought and are restoring the 500 is because I rode a mates 500 in '72, it was such a blast, light handled and revved its head off.

I've ridden Commandos, BSA Rocket 3, Triumphs had a '74 Bonnie 750 also a Trident, Hondas had a '72 750, and many others but I remember the 500 as the most fun to throw around and it went like the clappers.

Can anyone advise?
It's this vs $2500+ for 500 exhaust from CSMNL, I don't want to but the cost differential is a big part of the decision.

Yes, the 500/550 heads are the same on the exhaust port. Where you "might" encounter a little issue is the 4:4 pipes along the brake pedal area. Often you encounter conflict with differing years pipes against differing frames.

Yours being a 500, I think it will work in your favor.

Cal thanks, you're a champ, but I'm still balancing "full restoration" against a major corner cutting with the 550 exhaust. I'm leaning more towards the CSMNL pipes.

I don't envy that decision. While I fully understand the desire for factory "correct", you'd think that could be mitigated by NLA and opt for a non-OEM version of mild steels with reverse cones with a nice ceramic coating. Chaser60 did a very sharp resto-mod and used such an approach. Heresey perhaps, but it caught my eye as a very reasonable alternative.

Then again, there's always the $1200-$2000 factory corrects...

The verdict will come down to a money decision. I've asked a manufacturer if they do 4 into 2 pipes (they do them for 750s), I'm waiting for a reply.

Finished putting the valve collets in, and completed cleaning and reinstalling all the gears and thrust washers etc.

Got to locate the parts for the Gear Shift mechanism.

Did a little work on the electrics, started the cleaning process and fitting to the supporting plate.
