Looking good Mick. Did you leave some bare metal contacting between the engine and frame to ensure a good earth?

One thing to mention about the above pic is something we've discussed before, but bears repeating: All of the frame mounts here have been sanded down to bare metal front and back, and the engine has been relieved of paint as well, so that a good ground connection exists between the frame and engine. All of the exposed metal has been coated with dielectric grease in an effort to cut down on corrosion at these connections.

Made sure the engine's got a good earth, all engine mounts have metal to metal.

Exhaust doesn't fit properly, I'll have to grind the welds and get it to fit then reweld and rechrome.

Gauges, foot brake and kick start on.

A 40mm bolt fits does it go there as I can't see it on any drawing.

Couldn't resist sitting the tank and seat on, the straight bars are too short.

I don't want to rush it but I can see the end coming in about 2 months.

Just got the front and rear guards from the chromer.

You'll notice the chrome is slightly dull this is because it's got a film of oil over them. Ultimate Shine suggested to tip the guards upside down and pour oil into the rolled edges of the guards and all the brackets welded on the underside to ensure rust is minimised, all done.

Got new points and condensers, carby clamps, fuel line and clamps.

The chrome looks great, I need to re-chrome my 500, you can find new 750 rear fenders but not 500 rear ones.
Im wondering if a 750 will fit and look correctly on a 500., Im looking onto re-chroming if cant find a new one.

thats, for info, I also need the fork ears done. I just got a new 750 fender thats works fine.

Got a bit more done, finally finished the front end, really pleased. Only thing is to fill the forks with some ATF.

Rear guard and blinkers on, waiting on a new rubber gasket for the tail light, tail light is at the Chromer.

New points and condensors, haven't set the gap as yet on the points. .

Rocker cover on but I'll need to take it off again as I found a stripped thread in the head. Still need to do the tappets.

Exhaust I bought doesn't fit so I'll need to do some modifications, then re chrome.

Got a reasonable tail light for $15, drop in at the chromers tomorrow.

Tail light back from the chromers, started rebuilding the carbies.

Still waiting on the rubber gasket between the guard and tail light.

Have to use some heat shrink tubing under the guard, when the guard was repaired some of the metal and wiring tunnel was cut away to get the dints out of the guard.

Just noticed the finger print smudges on the chrome.

And btw, the Honda tail light could be used on a jumbo jet it's so huge.

Down side to chrome that pretty is the quality of reflection would embarrass me that I'd have to comb my hair and shave before approaching the bike; wouldn't want to catch a glimpse of myself before I rode off...

Just easing back into the build after 3 weeks in Queensland and 2 back working, I've started on putting the carbies back together. I realise when dismantling I didn't take anywhere near enough photos.

I think Dave Barbier put Alen heads on the carby clamps, and it looked good so I copied you Dave.

Question the schematic shows a spring and a 5/16 ball bearing. Does anyone have a photo of where they go? I can't figure it out from the drawing.

Mick, if memory serves me, the spring and ball go into a cavity behind , (and are held in, by) part #47 on carb #1.
They are used as part of the choke linkage and serve as a "detent".

I wonder why they don't have the spring and ball on all 4 carbies?

Question I'm going to use a 4 into 2 exhaust with baffles. What jetting should I use?

Currently I've got what I think is a stock set up - 100 and 40 in the carb I rebuilt so far.

Aww c'mon mick, you're makin me sound smart cuz I use them fancy words

.....I'm thinking they didn't use them on all 4 carbs due to high effort it would take to apply the choke(?) We may never know.
