CB750K Layshaft Bearing Holder - Problem Help?
« on: October 14, 2013, 08:13:45 AM »
Hey guys - I finally got around to rebuilding the lower engine on my cracked CB750K engine case. Everything went great until I tried bolting on the layshaft baring holder - it WON'T sit flush against the case. I'm about 1/4" proud of the case - about the width of the shifter fork...anyone have experience with this issue? I've attached a photo for reference. Would appreciate any help at all - I would hate to have to crack the case open again...

Something is not installed or positioned right. I was looking through pictures of one of my engine teardowns and found this one. Make sure your Neutral switch is installed in the detent on the shifter drum.

Thank you brandEn - I was afraid of that. I was hoping to NOT have to open it up again. But I guess I'll have to.
Thanks for the pic and quick reply.

well, don't open it up just yet. Remove that neutral switch and make sure your transmission is in neutral. Look through the hole and position the drum so you see the neutral detent in the drum. Then install the switch. I have found if your transmission is not in this position it can give you problems during install. Definitely worth looking at.
