Mini speedo (or tach) replacement bulb?
« on: October 14, 2013, 04:51:21 PM »
Picked up one of those generic mini speedometers for nearly free, but it's missing the bulb and wires. Anyone figured out a cheap and easy replacement? Maybe some type of LED from Radio Shack or something? It needs to have some type of rubber mount to press into the hole.

The hole is roughly 8.7-8.8mm or approx. 5/16", best I can measure.

They use these tiny minibulbs with a little foam grommet, they suck

I used the foam grommet to mount a single white led, with resistor so it doesn't blow. On all the time the way I wired but at night it is a gentle white, not blinding and daytime can't be seen.

I'm missing the grommet or rubber or whatever, too. Where'd you get the bulb? I may stroll through Radio Shack tomorrow and check them out.

From radioshack. It was a bare white led, one of the small "bright" ones, grab a pack of resistors if you use the plain bulbs, ln4001 I believe, it is 470 ohm, 1/4 watt. They are sufficient to not blow the led when you hit it with 12v

I hot glued them in to the grommet, I know you don't have them tho.. They may have something
