Anyone by chance know of a bike that came with one that size?  I'm coming up empty all over the net.

Ground as in grinding.
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

Turn and ground precision shafting is usually 1045, but you may be able to find 4140 will thread fine on a lathe. McMaster Carr may have it. The trick is to find it in a small quantity.
If you have a Metal Supermarket  similar, near you, they usually sell small quantity

thanks, man.  just wanted to make sure i was doing it right -- google gave me too many options!  :)  I work for a hardware distributor -- I can special order anything I need for a small premium.

this would still be easier if i could just find a swingarm bolt the right size from another bike... going to check with my local old-jap-bike-used-parts dealer today to see if his vast knowledge or secret warehouse full of stuff yields anything.    if not, it's fabrication time!

Decided on going with 304 stainless rod - at 10000 psi tensile strength I think it'll be ok unless I jump the bike off of a roof.

Got a quote from my local steel supplier for $21 for 18".  Hard to beat.
