Gaskets- will Neoprene work ?
« on: August 25, 2006, 11:22:16 PM »
I'm going to make an attempt at cutting a new gasket for my shifter cover, and probably a few others if needed.

Will neoprene be suitable for these covers
Shifter, Stator, Points & Clutch,

or should I use gasket paper ?

I think neoprene might maintain its flexibility longer than a standard paper gasket?

any thoughts or is this not a good idea?

thats actually a good question.  currently i dont have a gasket down on the rotor cover and would be insterested in cutting my own vs paying a ton for the custom sized one

Honda tend to use the thickness of the gasket to get the correct clearances so neoprene, being thicker, would not be a good idea

I didn't think the shifter engine cover had a gasket - what is there to seal?  For the points cover, anything you want should be fine, as there are no clearance issues there.  Not sure about the clutch side - is there a gasket on that cover?

If we're talking about a 750, the engine shifter cover definitely has a gasket. Quite a
lot of oil winds up in there....which is also why the shifter shaft seal occasionally leaks.
