Loose fit - new swingarm collar and bushes?!
« on: October 17, 2013, 12:14:40 PM »
I have a set of bronze swingarm bushes that I bought for the 750 K1 several years ago. Finally I got round to buying a new collar as well with plans to install this winter. But, the bushes are really loose on the collar; this just doesn't seem right. I measured the collar outer diameter to 21.4mm and the bush inner diameter to 21.5mm. I expected a snug fit, but the bushes just rattle about on the collar.

Comments?

The collar is a genuine Honda part, so unlikely to be out of spec. Are the bushes genuine?

Another thought - are the bushes made oversize to compensate for them compressing when fitted? I've had to ream many a small end bush for a proper fit for the wrist pin, but I don't have any experience with these.

They shouldn't be too loose but you will have to hone or ream the bushes once you press or drive them in the swingarm.  I don't remember if mine were loose before install but I couldn't get the collar in once they were pressed into place.  I had to ream the bushes to get a nice fit.

Thanks, guys. The bushes are aftermarket; I think I got them off Ebay maybe 7 years ago. I am also thinking that the clearance will tighten up when they are installed, but they seem way too loose to tighten up completely.

I recently installed bushings in the F swingarm and yes, they were loose on the collar outside and nicely tight when installed.

I would go ahead and put them in, if they work fine, if not, just hammer them out and get a new set, nothing to lose.
