Electric Starter CB 550F
« on: October 17, 2013, 01:10:19 PM »
I am having issues with my electric starter for my cb550F and was hoping someone could help me shed some light on the situation before i shed some cash. I purchased this bike around four months ago and the starter worked just fine but i was having trouble with the headlights staying on. I asked a mechanic about it and he told me that that sometime the starter button get stuck and the lights wont work. He sprayed some WD 40 on it and it seemed to fix it. Sometime after (not sure how long.....) the starter stoped working completely and the headlight will not turn on. I am hoping the spray did not cause the problem. Do I need to replace the starter (on the handlebar)?

There is a bypass that shuts off the headlight while the starter is on.

I doubt the WD is the problem. More likely the switch is bad and the WD just bought some extra time.
