Front wheel for a sidecar?
« on: October 18, 2013, 08:15:59 AM »
Would you use standard front wheel from a CB on a sidecar?  I feel the 15mm axle is not strong enough to be attached on one side only, I would install bigger bearings in the wheel (20x42x12) and use 20mm axle on a DIY swingarm such as the one on the picture.

I am aware of the advantage of a trailer wheel on the sidecar, but no thank you, I want a spoked wheel.

What do you think?

Looks like there is company in UK that converts Velorex to 20mm axle:

you may be able to replace the bearings with different ones and rework in the front wheel hub to get a larger axle diameter

Exactly the plan  ;D

How about tire, would it be better to go with a wheel I can find a sidecar tire for?

Honda makes. Belt drive rear wheel, maybe a 400? Probably 20 mm, and sidecar tires available..

Thank you, Frank, just one of those things I want to build and in the best case it drags on for years - in the worst case it never happens. >:(
