I really don't want to continue this but ...
...You will continue to stump for the anti gun propaganda machine.
Muscles make you cocky and irrational at times, so do guns.
By that you mean the police, military personnel, and government officials with ready access, correct? Are you a psychology professional? I can unequivocally state that I don't get cocky or irrational with my gun. Pride at hitting my target, yes, as anyone who has garnered a skill would. It is the last thing I would threaten another individual with who is not intent on doing harm.
So do drivers of SUV's with road rage, and knives and everything else that gets used as a weapon
The tool does not corrupt the user. The user must be corrupt first, in order to intentionally misuse a tool.
I'm all for gun ownership but you ever been mugged or raped?
It sure doesn't sound like you are for gun ownership. But, to answer your question, no. Not yet. I'd still like the option of defending myself should the need arise.
A gun would only serve to escalate the situation, it almost always does in some type of confrontation.
Based on what? Have you read the studies published by Professor Gary Kleck? There are many times the number of guns doing good than doing harm. But, that doesn't usually make the evening news. I do wonder why that is.
It is just facts out there anybody could look up, most murders are firearm related.
Perhaps if one only perused the anti gun lobby sources, one would agree it would appear so. But, they wouldn't lie to you or slant the reports to a willing, naive audience, would they?
Numbers also support that acquaintances do most of the raping too. About the only crime largely attributed to random acts by strangers is burglary/larceny.
Saying it does not make it so. Personally I find that notion unbelievable, even unsupportable. I would like to know what your sources are for this position statement.
These statements do make it sound like you have an innate mistrust of just about anyone.
Besides even that, mugger/rapist don't call out to you from down the block. Hey, excuse me, yeah you there, yeah you I'm gonna mug you. No, they walk up, punch you in the face and take your stuff. Fight, get punched again and again. Gun use requires space to get a shot off, that's another fact.
So, you think it impossible to develop situational awareness, be prepared, and ready, so we might as well just give up and be subjected to any harm that finds us?
Unless of course you wanna risk pulling it and shooting yourself in the act of getting mugged.
Now you are just parroting catch phrases right out of the handgun control inc play book, which have been proven false by the many states and locales that have right to carry laws.
This culture of fear does nothing to help or improve the crime rate.
You mean the fear of an able person wielding a gun in the correct and proper manner? You do know the crime rates ARE improving. Are you suggesting there is less fear now?
A lot of those guns used illegally were stolen from legal carriers. U.S. keeps getting more guns and crime rate just gets worse and worse. Hope you feel safe
Ah, getting your data and catch phrases from the liberal media, I see.
I suggest you get your "facts" from a more reliable source. True, the US gun population grows every year. But the crime rate has been going down steadily since 1991. If your proposal is that more guns equal more crime, and in fact more guns enter the population each year, how could it be that crime actually becomes reduced each year?
The data below is from:
http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/uscrime.htm Sourced from: FBI, Uniform Crime Reports
Bear in mind that there are now an estimated 310,000,000 privately owned guns in the U.S., and about 3 million are added each year. Still, the crime rate reduces. How can anyone reasonably state that guns in and of themselves cause crime?
To me, it seems that the actual data shows more guns equal less crime.
