I believe that Autozone carries an AGM that fits the 550. I got the new battery for my GoldWing from them and they also had what I believe is the correct size for the 550.

Greg: yes, AGM batteries are sealed no-maintenance.

Float valve not seating properly probably. Do you turn off your petcock at the end of a ride?

I've got a MotoBatt AGM in my 650, it is over 2 years old and you can leave it connected for 6 months without touching it come back to it and fire it straight up.  I've never hooked a charger to it yet ;D

Are the float levels set correctly? Does the float have a leak? Will the floats pivot up and down without binding?

Looking to replace my 12n12a-4a-1 battery with a non maintenance battery... Any recommendations? Would like to pick it up from a local retailer.

Batteries (all batteries) were considered non maintenience when they did away with removable caps on the top of the battery cells. That was many many years ago.

Do you mean a gel battery?

IF you mean AGM that is a GELL MATT technology battery. Meaning you can lay it on its side etc.,. Does not have liquid acid.

The charging characteristics of the gell batteries are different than lead/acid batteries.

Is it non maintenance?

All batteries are non maintenience now.
It just means you cannot fill them yourself nw because they removed the screw caps over each cell of the battery.

IF you set the float correctly by measuring like the book says (very important), then the only thing that it could be is a float bowl overflow tube is cracked, if the fuel is coming out of the float bowl drain.

Remember the book says ,"you must set the float by measuring BEFORE using the clear tube method.

You cannot set the float  so high that the gas in the bowl is higher that the overflow tube.

Fuel isn't coming out of the overflow at all... It's coming out of the intake boot between the carbs and engine head... It's not a lot but it's enough to see a drop hanging under the bowls screw by the morning and a small spot on the ground

Probably not what you're looking for, but I've been using the Anti-Gravity 8 Cell for 2500 miles now with zero hiccups. Never have to charge it. Never have to worry. I also upgraded to a modern regulator/rectifier. Some people have had bad experience it seems, but mine is flawless. And it's freaking tiny and lightweight.
