« on: October 24, 2013, 05:20:14 AM »
Should have everything in place to have the bike build complete by next week so should have some pics coming soon. I am still stuck on an air box mod. There are so many topics on it ,my mind is spinning. Can you guys post some pics of the mod you have done. (cb650) Am looking for some inspiration on designing my own. Appreciate the help and a huge thank you to Tom W. for helping gather everything I need to complete my build.

My 81 650C has a stock air box and runs great.

Why do you think you need to mod yours?

Agreed, Honda engineers spent a lot of time getting the stock intake track tuned (and tunable).  As long as the engine and exhaust are near stock the factory airbox can't be beat.   A heavily modded engine/exhaust will require considerable tuning on the intake side.  You should still keep the airbox and factory velocity stacks if you have then, just open up the filter box to increase breathing capability.  Most just drill some holes in the back of the airbox to allow more air in for better breathing.  You would most likely need to rejet afterwards.

I understand the engineers did a great job on the box and its purpose and functionality but its an eye sore. I do have the box and plan on keeping just wondered what others have done to help with appearance of the stock box. Maybe I should have been a bit clearer. Appreciate the input

The airbox mods, as you inquired about, are all about making it breath better on a modified engine.   I have never seen a thread on trying to make the airbox look better.  It is what it is.  Just keep the side covers on?   Now if your cutting the bike up and clearing out the triangle that is a totally different question.

What year CB650? if you have the CV carbs, the K&N filters work well. I have them on a 650 into a 500 swap, and I had none of the issues that normal pods usually have.
