CR500 IN A CB FRAME?
« on: October 23, 2013, 09:09:43 AM »
Anyone attempted this? ive dreamed about putting the cr500 two stroke engine in a cb500 frame. looks like there is room and the weight saved would be substantial. seems like an easy way to hit 60 hp

Go for it. Just about anything can be done with time effort and cash.

You would be better off finding something lighter if power to weight is what you are chasing, mid 80's RG, KR or TZR chassis would be much better... ;) We had a guy in AUS in the 80"s {Chris Oldfield i think his name was} who raced a big 2 stroke dirt bike in A grade racing and won a lot, he actually used the motocross frame with lowered suspension and used to ride around the outside of everyone, great to watch.... ;D

It doesn't take much imagination to make it look like a cafe, any bike can wear that look....

I had a guy from Seattle stop by a few years ago(maybe 2006) that had put an older air cooled Yamaha WR500(2 stroke) motor into a CB350 chassis. Bike had all alloy body work and he said it was so fast it was scary. He said he rode it all over the Seattle area. I had a pic, but cant find it. Maybe someone in the Seattle area has seen it?? It was easy to identify, as the exhaust pipe was stock.....but flipped upside down and ran under the engine.

I asked him why he didnt use a CR500 motor?? He said he chose the Yamaha, because it had a lighting coil with electrics and he didnt want to deal with getting the CR500 motor setup to run lights. The bike looked amazing with big air cooled 2 stroke motor. Wish I could find the pic........ >:(

Keep us posted......i've been wanting to do something like this for along time.

I have some sources for electronics I can get. found an older wrecked cr500 supermoto a couple months ago I shoulda snagged. was set up for headlight and everything. woulda been a perfect donor. I wouldn't care about signals on a bike like that anyways. seems like the 500 or 550 chassis is optimal. the frame for the twin has the central support that I fear would interfere with the carbs
