“Nine Hole” Clutch Cover Gasket?
« on: December 08, 2022, 12:11:02 PM »
Making lists and ordering bits I need for my current project (1969 cb750). Will check next shop day, but does anyone know if the regular clutch cover gasket works under an early “9 hole” clutch cover?

It does work, it is a little thin after you trim where the tenth bolt goes, I think I made one. The missing bolt area is a good spot for a dab of forma-gasket or some other gasket maker.
I noticed that some gasket sets contain both gaskets for the pan. There may be spares floating around in guys "left over" gasket stashes. The non-sandcast/diecast head gasket also sticks out where the front center bolt goes on 23,000 and newer engines.
I'm always amused by the ebay sellers that try to pass a standard oil pan off as a sandcast one. That's as easy to spot as an incorrect clutch cover. I have been known to make a 9-bolt clutch cover from an early 10 bolt one. That really winds up some of the SOOC club members.

I sold that sandcast engine too cheap to a rich guy and now I see a correct frame for sale for too much on ebay.

Don.... a few years ago a local engineering student made me some sump gaskets for the Benelli. I sent him a tracing, with ONE critical dimension. I think it was two stud hole centres in opposite corners. He ran it through a scanner, applied the single dimension, and started producing gaskets (of various thicknesses)! Way smarter than me. I’ll find him again and see if he can make “nine hole gaskets”. Want some?

I think I'm good on gaskets, but thanks for asking. I bought one on ebay and made a pattern before I used it. I think my sump gasket was a ball peen cutout job. Then I made a pattern off of that.
