BMW is truly following the tradition of building fugly bikes. It supposed to be classic/retro, according to BMW. Take a look at the suspension from the upside-down front fork to the frame and the one-arm rear fork.  Classic looks different (take a look at the CB1100 to see how it is done). The aluminum parts don't help either. Looks nothing like the concept bike which was a modern version of the R90S (with clamp-on handle bars that would only allow you to drive in a straight line but at least looked good). See: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=844624
But then, if you wanted to have a sporty boxer, there was the HP2 already, which can do turns, and has luxuries like lights, rear fender, signals, etc.
For pics of this new "beauty" though look here: http://www.bmw-motorrad-bilder.de/mb/thumbnails.php?album=98
Every time I am in the BMW shop (which is more often than I like), I look at the bikes in the show room, and wonder how they ever came up with the RR.

I see a lot of people #$%*ing about this bike and how it's crap.
I don't care. It made me interested in a modern bike. It does need few things taken off and/or replaced but it works for me.
The price tag that will come with it is a another story ...

Really? You wouldn't make this up, would you? I don't see how "people" can say that it is all crap--since aside from the test drivers that I met in the Alps, nobody has driven the new boxer. What I hear though is great disappointment from potential buyers (And I know quite a few of them from the RR forum: male, over 45, already a new HP4 and GS parked in the garage, and the money to purchase whatever bike they like to--without having to ask their mommy first). People are not happy with the design. Furthermore, after the R90S concept anniversary bike, BMW heightened expectations for a café racer. The removable passenger seat cover definitely does not suffice to fulfill this classification. Potential buyers expected something like this:

I wouldn't touch it either. But then, I already know what to settle for. No "wanna-be retro" here, but the real thing: an honest hand-built bike built in the continued tradition of Norton (the name alone gives me goose bumps).

I know, everybody has a different taste.  I hear that some guys like heavy and hairy women. On the other hand, that is not what I see in the magazines, so perhaps...

Beemer stated it was not a retro bike..reason being, that it gave them less latitude to use modern concepts. They said they never sold a bike with that small a fender up front , but said the target users, likely wont care...

Well, they call it a "classic" though. Not much of a difference between calling it a classic" or a "retro" bike. Perhaps with regard to the engine? But then, nobody would call the HP2 a classic bike either. I wish them good luck. It's not for me though. They must have had a foreign exchange student in Munich when they designed the RR.
