Quite often the CDI unit fails on those, it is cheaper to buy a whole motor with new CDI than it is to get just the CDI.  But still score ;D

Fair enough ;D, I've never been silly enough to own one.  Only what I have been told by a mate of mine that owns a local bike shop.

Our dump does not allow us take anything out once it is dropped off.

Quite the bummer actually, the typical fix for not running mower, weed whacker and such in Virginia is to toss it.

There was a trash to treasure section, but because people would hang there the whole weekend to get stuff for yard sale, they closed that too.

No doubt!  There was this guy bringing in two sea-doos with a trailer, saying they are waterlogged and where to dump them.

Don't you know that next day I saw the whole think parked next to the house of the dump guy?  ;D

On the other hand I wanted to rescue two pieces of sliding doors, I use them for windows in my shop, and those sliding doors were in the bin already.  I pulled them out, loaded on the trailer and after much heated discussion I had to put them back - because it is to be recycled.  Yeah, right, double pane glass door with metal frame will be recycled - they dumped it in the landfill and that was the end of it.  This country is run by idiots.

yeah its a funny thing, our council run landfills here have "scavengers"that have to pay for the rights to scavenge, this guy employs say four guys and has a couple of light trucks and mini excavators,he piles up steel and alloy, separates copper and lead batteries etc,he also has a shop around the corner where any sort of bric a brac is sold for cheap, like old mowers/weed wackers and things of interest,i get on good with all the crew and can pick through my bins once i empty them and have a chat with them,i might spy something on their collection i like and ask has anyone laid claim to this yet and mostly theyll let me take it.

I gotta give the county some credit - you can still drop of usable stuff at the dump and it goes into a thrift store and proceeds from the sale are used to feed the hungry - pretty good solution in my book, but I could definitely reuse and recycle a lot of stuff that goes into trash now.

Just venting ;)

One day i spied mostly all of a crinkly cut Montesa......... Had just turn my back and leave.. Man was I pissed.

Snuck into the dump one hot night to get what I could off a visible gas pump.. Rare one.. Got a tip on that. Went in late evening peeled off what I could. Had to hide in the weeds ac few times,, Feeking thirsty when I got out. It was a rare pump looked like glass and globe may have been intact on dropoff..WTF?
So I had to form a plan.. A guy I knew hired his Grade-Alls out to the city, he has coffee near where I live, asked if he could help.. He made a call..said lets go hope you can lift it!
So got the rest of it whoo-hoo... Had it for a while sold it later with no glass for 600 or 1000.. Ah the good old days..

Criminal mind, Frank, criminal mind  ;D

I was dropping off some scrap metal and right where I stopped were 4 suitcase weights for compact John Deere.  When the guy turned his back, I loaded them in the trailer - till this day I use them on my Kubota.

Wish I could scout the scrap metal pile for my needs :)

Thanks to dave, my two sons aged 8 and 11 love it. They keep yelling around the house " CANT BELIEVE I HAVE A MOTORBIKE".

So the story is that i brought it home and they went bananas. Had to unload it from my truck. Cameron my eldest had to be the one to wheel it in from the road. There were a few kids hanging around in the street generally playing. Im sure he wanted to show off his new toy. Anyway got it in, headed straight for the rear of the yard and away they went. First time ever on a dirt bike. After telling them multiple times to go slowly and smoothly on the throttle my eldest launches for the garden and fence. Stopped short with plenty of laughs. Anyway all good from there. Eldest has been practising. Had a little electrical issue but i think thats now sorted. They are de stickering the bike from how it came and are starting to re sticker it with some of dads ones. Im sure they will want there one ones in due course. Tomorrow we might clean it together. We might also go looking for a proper helmet. They been using there bike helmets? Anyway while this is going on, mum is inside rolling her eyes probably wondering if her two young boys will also now be spending most of there free time in the garage or talking about bikes, or wondering when can we head out for a ride like there dad does all the time...I hope so hahah. Will post some photos soon. Big thanks again to Dave. He's a True Blue Top Bloke....

heres the wreck i scavenged from the steel recycle bin, scored the cdi unit that got christos going and the engine that was in bits, kept the carb and switches were the same, slightly different engine so i did a gruesome disc grinder slice of the barrel and head and ports and reassembled it for educational purposes, hey you wanna post a pic of that engine christo?ill keep my eye out for more of these, ive always disreguarded them, good source of parts.
