Yes, I see the carb cut outs on mine and not yours. Thanks for clearing that up. Man, I am learing a lot about the simple wrinkle tank for sure. :) Never even thought I would even own a wrinkle tank.
Andy...it must be an optical illusion as I see what you mean about it looking fatter in the pic.

Well, you're still are lucky to have that nice wrinkle tank, and the spare to boot.  If it had only been the replacement with a smooth neck, most of us likely would have assumed it came from the factory that way.  I'd never pass one up if I could help it, but early diecast bikes are harder to come out even on if you have to source many of the original parts.  They share most of their parts with later sandcasts, but don't have the same value when restored.  So, I guess I'm kinda gushing on your find here Johnie :D You got a really great start with this one.

It happened a lot Johnie.  Welding it is the easiest solution, but replacement is best for resale.  Expect to pay $40 to $100 unless a member here can hook you up.  Otherwise, consider buying a nice set off ebay to rebuild.  There's been a flood of them into the market lately, and priced accordingly if you're patient enough for the real auctions ;)

goldarrow got it...ouch. Right down the middle between 2 & 3. I was going to have it welded as you can not see it with the tank on. Suppose I can check out Ebay or see if someone has one on the boards. So clue me in here...what year racks will work for this bike...or am I stuck with the 69-70 rack? It did not impede the mounting screws for the carbs...like I said straight down the middle. Anyone checking this project build have one to sell? I can put the request on the wanted area once I find out if this is only the 69-70 rack that will work.

Andy I can tell the carbs had been removed and cleaned before. They came off just way to easy. Plus, a couple of the intake clamps were only finger tight. So I figure when they came off the first time for the service they forced them out of the intake rubbers and did not take their time. That is what broke them.

In my best, deepest Russian accent: They are weak. ;D

They were too thin, Andy, and most people that broke them did it while pulling the carbs.

Here is a pic I put on the WTB area. Maybe someone has one out there...please. Do you really think welding this one would make the value that much lower?

So besides the obvious, I also noted someone soldered one of the float bowl brass vents. Also found 2 of the brass floats leaking. Noted spark to 2/3 OK, but no spark to 1/4 which will be checked down the road. Maybe just dirty points if I am lucky.

Depends on how well it's welded, and how discerning your buyer is, but not much.  It's an understandable issue: they broke.

While I await on the carb mounting issue, I thought I should tackle the crud on the motor. Here is a before and after pic. Tomorrow I take the carb mounting bracket in for welding as I have not found any used ones. I can always swap it out later if one surfaces.

So far found 2 brass overflow tubes leaking and 2 brass floats leaking. Have some extra carbs here to swap a couple bowls and to swap all the brass floats out for the plastic ones. Took the carb mount in for welding and can use it while I wait for one to show. Hate to buy 4 carbs just to get the mounting rack...they get big $$$ for the KO stuff as would be expected. Hard to believe this thing ran with any reliability a few years ago with these carb issues.

I thought the earlier carbs have different float bowls? The screws are smaller..

Tews...all I know is they fit. I think one of the extra sets is from a K1. It has the small screw. Hmmmmmmmmmmm...during closer examination I found that rubber oil return hose which goes from the back of the motor to the connection on the top / back of the oil tank disconnected and laying in there. That would have made a nice mess. Hose looks good as does the tight connection. I can not figure out why that would have been pulled off.

Appreciate that tews. I could tell one of the brass overflows had been soldered so I expected that one to leak. The other one I found looked fine, but would not hold a vacuum. Seems all I need now is that carb mount plate and I can get the carbs back on. Also been cleaning the sludge out from the bottom of the oil tank.

Here are some before and after pics of the fenders. I am very pleased at how the original chrome turned out. I was very lucky...no dents either.

Looks like at one time or another you had a few little furry friends that had found a home inside those nice pipes Johnie ??? What's the deal with that crazy looking chain guard. Looks like it almost covers the whole chain top and bottom.

Looks like an auto-luber for the chain.

That's crazy all of that came out of the pipes.  Have you figured out if they're the lotus roots?
