Thanks guys. Stev-o...how in the world did you know Lake Winnebago? The bike is running fantastic since I took care of the intake issue. I had a strange time yesterday when I was getting it ready to ride. I had no low or high beam? That was strange. Pulled the light and noted the H4 bulb in there. Looked good, but I had an extra here for the Wing so put that in and all was good. Strange how both filaments would go at once.

Glitch in the project:
DAM the carbs on this 69 CB750. Was running good, but could tell I had that intake leak and replaced the #3 intake with an extra I had here. Ran good, but was having intermittent FAST idle issue. So I figured since the intakes are 45 years old I should install new ones. Done, installed, now having a terrible time trying to get the low idle set. I have started over more than a couple times. Start to get close, then she revs way up so I make one small adjustment and they all drop to zero on the Morgan sync. What the hell??? It is not like I have never synced 4-4 carbs before. I think I better walk away for a bit. I may just have to take the air box off again and bench sync and see where it is at. What has me so confused is she ran great and all I was going to do was get the low idle up a bit as she was a bit below 1,000. Now I know why I told old scrambler "I really do not need another 4-4 carb bike."

Maybe slap on a newer set of carbs is the way to go for the moment. It sounds like this is eating at you and by putting on a new set of carbs hopefully it will be the remedy. Then you have all winter to play with the original carbs and not worry about it in spring time and then ride the snot out of her. Well at least get her in your rotation of sweet bikes to ride!

Just reading the thread again.  Did you use a honda rebuild kit or aftermarket?  Some of the aftermarket ones had quality issues. 

I feel your pain with the fast idle and high rpm.  Good luck.  We all know how it feels.

Thanks Nick...I hear ya' ;D I do have an extra set of carbs here. This is a small issue compared to what you went through recently. It will get sorted...but you are right...it eats at you. Especially when I had the high sync spot on a month ago and she ran great except for the intermittent high idle. Now today even the high idle was off so I put the Morgan on it and got it spot on, but the test ride shows it runs like crap? I don't get it, but guess I will let it sit a bit and think it over...there is always tomorrow...unless I need the snowblower :)

Prospect - the bike ran great a month ago and up until today. Even the early test ride today was great...all I wanted to do was increase the idle a bit. Then it all went into the crapper. Regarding the carbs, I had them ultrasonic cleaned at my dealer and used the same jets that were in there. I did clean all the jets...I am going to take them out again to be sure they are clear. Should be...tank has a new liner and like I said ran great for the past month. Heck, it is not like I never synced 4-4 carbs before. Maybe some crap found its way into a jet which could account for the weird sync readings.

Fixing it will be the easy part, finding it is not.

Stev-o...you are "right on". I got her back on the lift and in the next day or so I am going to check those jets first. It is just to weird. I should have never messed with the high idle since it was set a month ago. But with the new intakes I thought I should check it. Man, she sure ran good early today :) I keep telling myself this is fun and this is why we do it. :) What knocked me down was this was going to be my final sync with the new intakes and I could call it done...and then it just sucked the air out of my lungs.

Got the carbs off again tonight. Found a couple issues. One slide was stuck up in the holder a bit do to the cable. And a vent tube aluminum nipple had come off the side of #1 carb. Pulled plugs and they are black and sooty probably from trying to sync the carbs for a couple hours. There is only a few hundred miles on them, but probably should change them out. All jets were clean. Used some blue Lock-Tite on that loose vent tube. Making progress..."serenity now." :)

Got the bike out today and did the sync after taking care of the issues noted above. She pulls like a freight train down the expressway and runs good. Now just have to dial in the slow idle we should be set to go.

Well, you know how you tell yourself this is as far as I am going with this bike. :) Did a little more chrome to dress it up. Also painted the swingarm after having Hondaman do the bushings for me. Now if this snow would just melt...

Are you still looking for a decent dyno-cover?  Its been sitting on my bench for a few months........not perfect, but no deep scratches or rash.

The running CB750K0 that I acquired last year is likely to be parted-out. The frame and motor would make a good candidate for a 750CR project.  I'll begin wrenching on it when the snow melts. Let me know if you need any parts..........clocks, upper triple, fork legs, front brake & wheel, oil tank..........
