March update: I am getting to picky on this KO which I was not going to do. Originally I was going to limit the chrome since it was in pretty good shape. Then I started to have second thoughts. As in a previous pic of the fenders they actually turned out pretty nice for 1969 chrome. However, the front fender had a scrape on the front of the cut off and I had trouble living with that. So I took it in to my chromer. Then the small pits on the back fender that I thought the license would cover did not...so guess what...now that is in to my chromer as is the tail light bracket. Dang...I could not help it. Addiction...that's what it is! I did buy from LeCram new speedo, tach covers and faces as the covers were cracked. When I got the OEM gauges out it is remarkable how nice they are. I cleaned the OEM speedo face and it is awesome. The tach face is equally as good even with the faded red line area so I made an executive decision to put both OEM faces back in. The faded tach area adds some nice originality to the bike. I also painted the orange back on the ends of the gauge needles. Tank has been lined even thought it was nice inside. Tins are still at my painter for the candy blue green. Pics of those when I get them back. He will be painting the gold stripe on the tank like he did on my others. HM300's have the new diffusers and heat shields in place. New exhaust gaskets installed. Dang I am starting to get attached to this KO now...why does this happen to me...don't tell my wife! ::) That should have us up to date...

I'd been following Powderman's posts and figured out that he is the one to talk to about PC and pestered him to help me out. Everything is powder, including the lettering which just blew me away. Best part, it didn't cost me my kidneys!

The only difficult OEM part missing on the bike was the shorty chain guard. Found that from a member in TX who had landed a KO parts bike. No cracks, damage or issues with it. Cleaned and polished it up and she looks fantastic. Wish I had a few boxes of those shorty guards $$$.

I'm extremely lucky to live near Johnie's place, and was able to drop in last week for a first hand look at the 69.  What a beauty!  If you ever want to loose track of time, stop by and check out a KO coming back to life   ;D.    Can't wait to see the bike come together.  The transformation thus far is amazing.  Great combination of original patina and refurbished parts like the gauges above.   John's attention to detail is second to none!  Thanks for a great afternoon.

Checked up on the tank. Liner should be done end of next week and then back to the painter with it. Sort of at a dead spot until I can get the tins and chrome back to get the front end back on.

When Jerry was over a couple weeks ago he schooled me on tire codes. I already replaced the tire on the front as it was cracked bad. The rear looked good with no cracks and good tread. Tire code told me it was from 2009. In talking tire codes with Jerry we found the rear is actually a 1999 tire. It was pretty hard and slick...so decided to order new rear...better to be safe...thanks Jerry.

Hey Johnie. Just got internet back after being down since March 6th because of a bad ice storm. Hope I haven't missed to much. Good to see you still plugging along. This KO has become part of you just like all these bikes do with us. Go ahead and accept the fact that it's part of the family ;D

It's looking REAL GOOD from here :) :) :) :)

I like the look of the other bikes in your collection as they are all 'tucked-in' for the cold weather and facing away from the '69.

Chrome looks sweet! I'm curious how they dealt with the under side of the fender and the tail light...also, if you don't mind me asking, is it as expensive as Brown's plating?

The under side of the fender gets the chrome as there is no way around that in a dip tank. The only difference is the underside does not get buffed. What does Browns charge for a front and rear fender?

Ah I see, so you're covered either way when it comes to rusting. Brown's catalog has small to large fenders in the $200-$400 range.

I paid $150 for the front and $125 for the back. Plus being local I do not have to mess with shipping. This guy travels to a number of shows and he just got back from FL. He brings stuff back with him and saves the customer 50% on shipping. Here is his website: http://customplatingspecialist.com/index.html  ask for Terry. He is an outstanding guy and very friendly.
