Thanks Johnie, I wasn't sure about replating, but replacement parts were just awful looking so I caved and started looking for a local guy too. Few miles west of Chicago, there's a guy named Mike at Calco Plating, who made me an offer I couldn't refuse despite the cost. Basically $1200 for everything chrome on the bike (except the pipes and rims), down to washers. Mind you, this deal is basically you get what you pay. I will post some pix when I do the unpacking and compare. I tore open the fenders and treated the underside with an Eastwood coating, and at least on the outer surface, they look good as new. He taped up the underside so they didn't get plated, but the tank ate away a lot of rust, so I used the undercoating to fully stop it where it is.

Edit: everything but the pipes and rims.

Thats a good deal. I was quoted $200 for a front fender from my local plater, he is the only one in Austin.

Chrome looks Great Johnie! I am starting a new HK0 Trail 70 build and will definitely be giving Terry a call on some parts. Your not EVER gonna sell me that K0 now are you?!?!?! LOL

Here's a sample Johnie, hope its good enough for the money. Fenders and fork tubes. I'm still waiting on some parts to return, so some day I'll post a pic of everything.

Ed those pieces look very good to me. You even did the fork tubes...wow.
Thanks hall...I am trying to hold back on this one a bit in case I do sell it to keep the investment down, but that does not seem to be working

Brian - I have to tell you the same thing as the other guys - I can not decide what I am going to do with this one until I hear it purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

Thanks Johnie, I'll take some better pix when we actually get some sunlight. It was a whole bike deal, so everything that was chrome got rechromed (no pipes or rims ofcrs). I'm glad the fork tubes and their pistons and even the brake caliper piston now look brand new, just hoping this will work out and I can ride this thing forever. Or sell it to buy my first true love, the HD FatBoy

Ed...........and others..........some chrome shops tend to allow the parts they work on to 'grow' before they are returned to you. A few thousanths of copper-nickle-chrome will make a huge problem for fitment. Please check your parts before you try to install. I had that same experience with Terry a few years ago...........re-chromed handlebars were 'thicker' and the throttle-tube / perches would not fit. I then sent a spare throttle tube to Terry and he 'fixed' the problem. FWIW.........fork tubes and brake pistons have 'hard-chrome' finish which is quite different from show-chrome.

BTW.......good chrome will flex by 8 or 9% without cracking. I have tweaked a few items after Terry did a chrome-job and found his work to hold up to the test.

Good point Dennis...even the chrome fork ring I bring a fork ear so he knows not to get the chrome to thick. Terry does stand behind his stuff.

I've already run into that, the rear wheel axel only had chrome on the head and the threads, but to my guy, that didn't seem "right" so he plated the whole thing. I told him I was concerned it won't slide through freely and sure enough, simple test with a wheel bearing and it was too thick. I took it back with the bearing, and he removed it, thinned out the bolt few microns and plated it again anyway

but the bearing now slide through perfectly. Not sure why he couldn't let go, but my axel looks awesome now

OK OK...so it has been a bit since I have been able to move forward with this KO. Couple of factors...the PO had a fairing on it and really scratched up the frame in front of the motor. I was going to leave it, but the more I looked at it the more I knew I needed to paint it. So had to wait for warmer weather to paint. Then as luck would have it I landed a 1972 CB350K4 with 6,500 miles so I been working on that. The 350 runs good and I have been having some fun with it. So today I got the KO motor masked and pushed it into the paint shop. Once she cures I will be ready to move forward. Of course, now we are in the riding season so I make no promises as to the progress

Isn't that the way it goes Johnie! I'm right in the middle of a Wing/Bobber project when that Chopper deal presents itself! Man did we need to build a Pole barn for a garage or what!

June 9th - time for an update - the 72 CB350 is done except for the OEM mufflers which will go on soon. Now I can get back at this KO. I had painted the frame in front of the motor a couple weeks ago. This past weekend I got the side covers polished and the KO back on the lift for the final assembly. Put on the newly painted center and side stands. Glad to get back at it...

June 22nd...progress this weekend. Got the x-ring chain on and finally got the unstamped HM300's installed. Pipes 1 - 3 went on easy. Was having a difficult time getting pipe #4 to slide onto the spigot all the way. Messed with that for a while before I replaced the spigot with another. Turns out the spigot that came with the bike must have been rechromed and the chrome was to thick to allow this pipe to seat. Still waiting for my tins to get done. I am going to check with the painter this week. He has only had them since November...never took him this long before. Next comes installing the carbs.

Pipes look great, Johnie. What is it with painters? I had same issue and other members have too.
