CB400 bucket
« on: October 27, 2013, 06:53:56 pm »
I want to put a H4 halogen on my 75 CB400 F. I haven't been able to find a replacement light that fits the bucket.  If i change bucket I think I will go alittle smaller any ideas. Original sealed beam is 6 3/4 in. all the halogens I found were to big or to small.
Almost there!

I used one of these.

It's brighter and fits right in. It is a wee bit smaller but I think it's worth it. One can hardly tell the size difference.
Hope that helps.
cheers

The Candlepower is the only 350/400 H4 headlight I have been able to find in the last 10 - 20 years. I actually use a Cibie that's been NLA for a long time: I prefer the Candlepower light pattern after comparison, but the Cibie one is glued into my headlight ring and I'm too lazy/cheap to change it.
You will have to fiddle quite a bit to mount the headlight, it does not have the Stanley fittings that the stock ring expects. I believe my solution of gluing the assembly to the ring is effective and somewhat easy. Silicon sealant/adhesive has held it in place for many years without trouble - plus there's no gap for crap and bugs to get blasted inside the bucket through. There's no horizontal beam aiming adjustment possible, but I consider that unnecessary anyhow.

I had the candlepower 6 3/8 in. Left a gap between the lens and chrome ring, it would fall through.  The idea of gluing /sealing it all the way around  doesn't appeal to me. I might just change the bucket and  a light that fits. thanks

I could not find a small bucket to hold the wires. I bought a 7 in and then made a bracket to hold it. Looks good 'I'm runnuing a 45/45 H4.
