I get pissed off at people that look for stuff to label racist, there has to be "INTENT" for anything to be racist, also what you may think is racist has nothing to do with racism or may not be considered racist elsewhere.  {In other parts of the world WHITES were slaves as well so that would also make that stupid "white girls" movie racist as well, don't see anyone b1tching about that..!! Drop all the labeling and just get over it and on with it, or as we say here, " build a bridge and get over it".... :o ::)

Im surprised Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson or Lewis Farrakhan hasn't voiced their opinion about this. Most of the time after something like this makes press they can't get on the national news fast enough to talk about it ::)

There is no excuse for blackface in this day and age. I don't care if you are some homeschooled white chick from Utah, you should know better. If you know about the history of blackface then you would know this is a very derogatory and insulting thing to people of color. People get angry about this for good reason.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackface

Lighten up Lucky, er Dukie.     :)

I don't quite grasp what I should lighten up about.
Racism and racist behavior should not be tolerated just because some cute white Moreman chick supposedly didn't know any better because she was a homeschooled halfwit.
It is not an excuse, ever.

Quit taking your training so seriously. If it's funny, you'll know it.

I thought it was one of those ridiculous hollywood tans they all get. I had no idea it was blackface. Also, Frankenduke, why are you all bunged up about it. Are you black? er, um, African American? Or is that not correct anymore? Can I even ask that anymore without someone getting worked up? Sheesh , I grew up watching the little rascals with my neighbor , who is dark skinned and all we did was laugh. Ebveryone is way to uptight. I think that is what this thread is about, being too uptight about sh*t that does not matter one bit. Some hollywood skank proves that she's a moron, thats all I saw.

P.C. is an excuse for guilty white american  middle aged men to feel good about themselves because they are the top of the food chain. I guarantee that is who started this whole thing. That and a bunch of church ladies and Politicians. One thing I do not do is; listen to politicians. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

If you knew me you would know I am about as un-PC as a person can get while still being a somewhat respectable person. What I don't really care to see is racist behavior and people trying to write it off as not a big deal or trying to justify it somehow through ignorance. Blackface is racist behavior, period. PERIOD.

Ask the next black person you see or know what they think about blackface and see what they think about it (if you know any). Some people may not be offended by it but if you discuss the matter with people that know the history they will let you know it is not OK.

Or, a better idea, if you think it is soo harmless why don't you put some blackface on and stroll down your local MLK drive or your local projects and talk to a few people of color to get their honest opinion on your makeup that's not that big of a deal.

Why don't you try that out as part of your training tom?

Hey Dukie - I'm a pretty laid back guy, pretty far from being a racist. My father was so I know the drill.

So you suggest we "go ask the next black person" we see, but some may not be offended?
If they are not, it wouldn't be racist then, right?

Not trying to piss ya off, I like the humor you bring here.  But there are quite a few of us here that just don't see this being a racist thing.

...I don't see this as a race "hatred" kind of thing, like the clan, or the Nazi's...but I do see this as a young woman being publicly ignorant of certain cultural issues that Dukie has brought up.  She (who the #$%* is she again?, and why is she famous?) probably didn't mean to offend anyone, she was just too dumb to know any better

I'm not a TV watcher so I did a little research on the matter. Julianne Hough is a actress who wore a Halloween  costume to resemble another actress  part in a movie. I would believe that she must have been impressed with the performance by actress Uzo Aduba  to chose to impersonate her character. I watched the clip provided in this thread and I think she's very talented. So what I trying to point out is that I don't believe that it was meant to be malicious. I cut and pasted this quote that I found on E news on line. Weekly spoke to Cox at Monday night's TV Academy event celebrating LGBT characters, and while she agreed it was flattering of Hough and her friends to dress up as the cast for Halloween. I think it's great she likes our show. Crazy Eyes is my favorite character besides mine, too," she told the site. "But it's really interesting that she doesn't seem to understand. It's historically tricky in this country to re-create blackface. I'm not opposed to someone having their form of expression, but she seemed to be completely unaware of the historical implications going in, and I think that's problematic. If you want to make a choice like that, I think it's important to understand the historical context you are walking into."
She adds about people honoring Orange Is the New Black for Halloween: "It's so amazingly flattering. I don't know if that's a sign that you've made it, but it's wonderful."
Hough posted an apology on her Twitter last Saturday, insisting she was a huge fan of the show and of Aduba's. "It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way," she wrote. "I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize."

Not in my part of the world at all Dukie, so why should we have to bend to your views mate, besides all this crap does is dredge up the past {you countries past and you can't change that}, get over it ..  The bullsh1t part of all this is that we can't dress up as a black guy even if we idolize them but they can all dress up as white guys and it means nothing, actually, you interpreted this to mean what you wanted to b1tch about and thats the problem......

Interesting debate, if nothing else highlighting the double standards that some people seem to adopt. I'm not racist, but I'm far from PC either.

Its like you can't use the 'N' word over here (not that I would) because you would be risking arrest, yet the crap rap music I hear wafting out of my kids bedrooms uses that kind of language all the time. So if you're black it's ok to say it but if you're white its not? Double standards. That's a deeper issue. I thought this thread was about some silly little girl who made a bad choice dressing up for a party. Jeez, when Prince Harry dressed as a Nazi he didn't get this much flack!

I guess I'm lucky to work in the health system which these days is extremely multi-cultural. Colour just doesn't figure. I remember when my lad was about eight years old (long time!) and he took about fifteen minutes trying to explain who this guy was he'd seen on the TV, completely omitting the fact he was black, which had I known I would have been able to identify him immediately. I miss that innocence.
