I did ask my black colleague, actually two and at least one of them I consider friend.

They did not find it offensive and i am sure the would not lie to me on that.

I like the idea of dressing up as a true black face and walking down MLK. I am going to guess that it would, at some point cause a violent confrontation. If I got smacked around by a few people who were offended, I am sure  I would have deserved it? I mean it was offensive right? Violence is okay if its directed toward the evil Caucasian? purely hypothetical of course. I have to work and don't have time for such a time consuming social experiment.

Also, Frankenduke, why are you all bunged up about it. Are you black? er, um, African American?

+1.  For someone that hangs in the Southside Bar, I would not have guessed you to be so politically correct.
Not that there's anything wrong with that....

If you knew me you would know I am about as un-PC as a person can get while still being a somewhat respectable person. What I don't really care to see is racist behavior and people trying to write it off as not a big deal or trying to justify it somehow through ignorance. Blackface is racist behavior, period. PERIOD.

Ask the next black person you see or know what they think about blackface and see what they think about it (if you know any). Some people may not be offended by it but if you discuss the matter with people that know the history they will let you know it is not OK.

Or, a better idea, if you think it is soo harmless why don't you put some blackface on and stroll down your local MLK drive or your local projects and talk to a few people of color to get their honest opinion on your makeup that's not that big of a deal.

Why don't you try that out as part of your training tom?

Dukie dude, you continue to show your PC training was very effective.

I've been a member here since 2005 and have yet to go over 1000 posts while you have been a member since 2008 and have in excess of 10,000. One could only surmise you love to tell others what you are thinking all the time.

Lighten up, you will still be the same person tomorrow morning.

Tom

I am just fine Tom, no need to worry about me. You live in the United states of Caleefornia, why don't you put on some blackface and take a stroll down the main thoroughfare in Compton? Strike up a few confersations with the locals.
I mean, it's no big deal right? Come on PEOPLE!! Go ahead and take up my offer to prove me wrong, take some pics and video for me to laugh at you while you try to prove your futile point.

And for you to assume ANYTHING about me is pretty f*cking presumptuous on your part.
You don't know me, you don't know where I grew up, you don't know $hit about me. I'll leave that at that.

Like I said in my previous post not all people will take offense to it but most do if they know the history of blackface.

I said it before, smacking a racism label on something this idiotic makes racism just a word, or motion tabloid like.  The real racism is not funny and crying racism for this takes away the seriousness of the real racism crimes.  Ever been to Auschwitz, Terezin, Dachau?

Corporate America and the business world is scared to death of the R word. What I've witnessed at times is white employees, management and non-management positions be fired and rightly so for poor work performance, etc, etc. and the top brass not blink a eye walk in and tell you box up your stuff and get out. But in other cases black employees, management and non-management doing sorry work also and at times worse things and the top brass closes their eyes and ears to it. So afraid of the race card being pulled and a law suit filed for being racist if they were to fire the black employees like they did the whites and the millions of $$ it might cost the company.

It always startling to see those fuming with self righteous outrage  about "PC" are always white men, arguably the most privileged group on the planet.   They seem aggrieved that their sense of entitlement is under siege by women, black people, gays, Hispanics, immigrants, other minorities, etc, reaching for an equal slice of the pie.  We just saw it with the last election where Romney as the prime example of this entitlement was so shell shocked when he lost to the black guy.  It was their turn after all...they even said as much if you paid attention.

as for the lady who dressed up ..as a Celebritard they are given some leeway as unlike some of us they are usually to stupid to know better.

i think things like this are taken out of context --- think about it.  she's a STAR.  i really don't think she would try and do something that people could even remotely consider racist, because that would be career suicide.   this is people overreacting to harmless #$%* so they can feel like a better person.  "the 1st one to call someone else a racist can't be a racist!!"

Nice assumption Steve, if you'd witnessed my childhood you wouldn't have the same opinion mate, I have never felt "privileged and made my own way in life and did it hard. We have a very multicultural country as well mate and i can tell you first hand, If I liked whining about racism {reverse, which apparently doesn't exist} I would have plenty to b1tch about, I've witnessed completely innocent Aussies bashed half to death by racist Lebanese thugs, for no reason, I have been racially abused by Asians simply for being "in the wrong place" , i could call all of this racist , no one does though,  but it was just idiots being idiots, these days I see racism as a cause held onto by people that need something to #$%* about, like i said to a Kiwi fella with a chip on his shoulder, who worked in Australia and started abusing me because he was but hurt over the Sheep jokes he was subjected to,  "I don't care if you are black, white or yellow mate, your just another bloke  to me and at the moment you sound like you deserved it, get over it", his mates told him to shut up and sit down and got me a beer, this was in NZ in december1999... My partner of 32 years is a Kiwi and her beautiful family in NZ, I treat as my own..... I get what happened in the past but by dragging it around forever and rubbing in everyones faces, you are just going to create unnecessary conflict just because you can....

Its funny. I moved to the west coast and the people around me are so UPTIGHT about the whole P.C. issue. It gets tiring . There is so much more in life than get mad because some people are morons. There will always be a reason for someone to not like someone else, whether it be blue hair, green skin, tattoo's , beards , hetero, gays etc. Not a damn thing will change that.No matter how many laws the politico's put in place to stop the hate , it will Never work.Ever. Also, when you gentrify everything, it will all be boring as hell.
its better to regret something you have done, than something you havent.Except playing with explosives.

Speaking of, why is it OK to make fun of Asians on TV and pretty much everywhere?
I don't see anyone getting super butthurt over that! What about certain sport team and their stereotypical representation of native Americans? No one is crying over that.

I think if you are a white person from the US, you need to visit other parts of the World to witness what racism is. BTW, I'm not from US originally and have seen some #$%*. Just FYI.

Never understood the racism thing, most everyone bleeds red, dies for the same reasons, needs the same things, has roughly the same lusts. If a black, red, yellow,
pink human treats me like #$%*, then they are lower than pond scum, if they treat me decently then they are humans. Real #$%*ing simple. Racists got too much time on their hands and not enough brights. It goes back to those who are #$%*s and the rest of the world. The Demon has spoken!

Yes.
Yes, my poop chute is very butthurt that you did not accept my socio-challenge and prove me wrong with video and pictures of you in blackface taking a leisurely stroll through the main boulevard in Compton and striking up polite conversation about race with the locals. And if you were to dress like Colonel Sanders with a cane and your blackface I would feel a lot less butthurt.

Alas, you are scared and chicken to prove your point so I guess my butthurting will continue to butthurt for eternity.  :(
