77 CB550 Carb Question
« on: November 01, 2013, 06:14:02 AM »
Hey Folks,
Been lurking for a while now and just bought my first CB, a 77' CB550K and I love it so far. I generally ride Triumphs, so this is my first step into the classic Honda World.
The bike is in nice shape and has 11,000 miles on it. It runs very well at the moment but the person I bought it from has had it sitting in his garage for the better part of 4 years so a full fluid flush is in order and a carb rebuild since I am smelling gas in the oil, and they need to be cleaned up overall.
Anyway I have been searching high and low for a carb rebuild kit for the 77/78 models and not having much luck. I would prefer not to have to piece meal all of carb parts from various sites. So has anyone seen carb rebuild kits for this model floating around on the interwebs?
Thanks

Silver has a US site.    http://www.davidsilverspares.com/
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

About halfway down the page

http://www.siriusconinc.com/search_result.php?make=1&model=CB550&part=1&partno=&x=28&y=11&search=search

Not sure how great Keysters are for the PD carbs but they are available. also you can go to a micrfiche page to get the part number then google it "HONDA 16010-393-305"

Start with just a gasket kit unless you know for sure your jets are F'd up.

Why don't you first verify what is wrong?

Unlikely you even need a "kit".  You probably just need the bowl gaskets.  The metal parts are all cleanable.  Best to reuse the originals, as you just never know if aftermarket ones were made to the proper dimensions.
The pilot jets will be the biggest concern, pulling them out of the pressed in position to clean the properly.
