Looks like Hondabond on intake manifolds

Looks like some sort of sealer like hondabond.  How do I get this stuff off?

Interesting, is it hard or soft?

Do you need to soften the manifolds?  If so, the xylene/wintergreen should loosen that stuff...Larry

I let it sit in xylene. The stuff is mean and eats up any of that stuff and at the same time it softens up the boots

I will probably catch flack for this but I take silicone and put the thinnest swipe on he inside of either end of the boots. Real thin and let it set up. Makes that perfect seal easier. I have new boots that still didn't want to seal so I gave it a shot after bs'ing with a friend and him mentioning I "forgot" to put sealer there. I gave it a shot considering a car would probably have sealer on something like that, seems to make sense. It works great btw

Try rubbing some brake cleaner on a rag on it but be careful with the rubber.

Lacquer thinner is handy stuff to have around the shop, plus it smells good  :)

It's hard, I tried scrubbing it off, but getting nowhere.   I'll try some Lacquer Thinner, then brake cleaner.

I'm actually doing the xylene/wintergreen thing right now.

I'm in the process of restoring a 75 cb750K.  I bought a parts bike, so luckily I have two sets.  The other set looks good, but hard as a rock.

The xylene concoction works well on the thicker head rubbers but the airbox ones in my experience, and a couple others too, are just a waste of time. The soften up but warp and shrink weird and get rock hard really fast

I bet that sealer will just about fall off after soaking the boots

Thanks for the advice.  The airbox rubbers were already a little deformed and softness was uneven.  Plus I had them soaking already by the time I read your comment.

So, I have them drying on old light bulbs.

The one on the left is fresh out of the soak, the others have been drying for a few days.  Those have nice uniform softness and have a nice Velocity Stack shape.  I'm very pleased with the results.

Those other boots with the sealer on them are soaking now.
