That's damn awesome dude. +1 on Bwahhahahahahaha that's some s I'd do. Lol!

"In the heat of battle [NobleHops] wove a tapestry of obscenities that as far as we know is still hanging in space over Lake Michigan"

I had a day full of win overall, once I got over the embarrassment of The Neutral Light Incident that is. The epoxy repair of my turnsignal base worked, so I got the turnsignals done and done, I got my H2 down to the CHP to verify the VIN with zero drama, got to the DMV to complete the title work at 4:30 and there was NO LINE, picked up some parts at my powdercoater and moto shop, and if I'm going to tell the entire glorious truth, I WAS WEARING MY PAJAMAS ALL DAY. That #$%* rolls just fine in Santa Cruz, nobody bats an eye at that sort of thing. WINNING!

Now I am drinking an appetizer and about to pimp a pair of VF700s on Craigslist and tomorrow I will wrap up a lot of stuff on the 400 and get the ST1100 on the lift and all is well.

I/we..are certainly laughing with you and not at you.  That's a funny story about your transmission.  I can so relate to that with some of the embarrassing things I've done over the years, too.  Those are the kinds of lessons we/you learn from and never forget.   ;D

Thanks man. It didn't take me all that long before I was laughing at me, so it's OK if that got mixed in there too :). Embarrassing as it was, it was too big a boner not to share.

Eh, nobody's perfect. We laugh at each other, and when it's too much we laugh at ourselves. We note our transgressions, make an effort, and move on.

OK, with my transmission having magically self-healed and a few odds and ends having arrived, I realized I could button up a lot of things, and so I did.

Replaced the neutral switch and the wiring and installed some new bulbs in the bezel and sure enough, the last of my electrical gremlins was squashed, all the lights and switches all working perfectly. This was the part of the project I was the most stressed about and in fact it went really well other then the neutral fiasco, so that was good progress compared to the last restoration's thrashings.

Replaced the left side crankcase cover and shifter, done.

Hemmed and hawed for a few minutes and finally pulled off the footpeg, clutch cover and kickstart lever, and replaced the sacked clutch springs with a set of Barnetts.

Pulled the plugs and the C5 ignition, replaced the stock advancer plate to set TDC and adjusted the valves. Replaced the C5, set TDC, buttoned that all back up, done.

Installed my old headlight and ring, as the Emgo I got from Niche Cycles was incorrect (Grrr!), got the wiring stuffed in there.

Pulled off the headers and pulled out the NE brand gaskets - found #2 definitely was leaking. Replaced them all with a set of Vesrah that fit a lot better. Tightened it all up, done.

Installed the front fender, puzzled over the fit of the stays, left them off for now.

Installed the side covers, pulled down the tank, installed the petcock and then discovered that it was too narrow, both at the cups and at the sheet metal. 10 minutes with the die grinder on the metal cup to relieve a good 3/16 from each side and that was no longer the issue, but the rubber pucks also had to be relieved 1/4 inch to clear. Once that was done it fit well, but not before I scratched up my frame up under the tank.  >:(

Popped the seat on, cleaned up a month's worth of greasy fingerprints, stood back and saw this, at last:

Bummer about the scratches -- good that they are hidden, so they will not be staring at you, driving you nuts.  The bike looks gorgeous!  Well done!

Bummer about the scratches -- good that they are hidden, so they will not be staring at you, driving you nuts.  The bike looks gorgeous!  Well done!

Thank you kindly. It does look good in person, all new bodywork and a NOS seat will do that for ya :-).

There's still a few things to sort out - my gauges need repair and refinishing, that will be a bit of a project. The centerstand comes nowhere near the stopper on the muffler and so it is riding on the chain! It had been bent and I have another that is freshly powdercoated, so we will see if that fits better.

Its running very rich and so fouling plugs instantly, so I need to check my carb boots and see what might be causing that.

Waiting on a NOS headlight rim and then I will install that and finish tidying up the front. The stays on the front fender seem WAY too long to me, but they are indeed identical to the ones I had, so I have to wrestle those on too.

My gas cap parts arrived today so I will probably button that bit up first, just to make that less of a kludge.

So that's where we're at!

I'll take a few more and prettier photos as soon as the rest of the shiny stuff is on, but now I have to put that project down for a bit as I prepare another bike for an upcoming tour.

So Jewel lost her spot on the lift for a little bit, but I will be back in a few weeks to finish these last things off.

Thank you for following along, helping where you did, sharing my project. With luck I'll be posting about a fantastic first ride after I get back from my trip.
