Dresda 500-4 at North Weald UK
« on: July 17, 2006, 10:20:48 AM »
Spotted this excellent Dresda at the North Weald Classic Bike Show on Sunday.  Spoke to the owner who has had it since 1986.  It's an early Dresda frame (numbered in the high 100's) with a K2 500/4 engine (CB500E-21xxxxx), Alpha exhaust, Dymag wheels and Lockheed brakes. Some serious engineering by the owner.  His 1/4 mile drag times were not so good due to a bit of bogging at take off so he didn't bother recording them.  Maybe next time...

Picture shows Eamon Maloney (UKCB750CAFERACERS) pondering the engineering while Jim Shea holds his orange drink!

High res pictures in the gallery for those anoraks who want a closer look...

Those three-spokes gotta go though.
I agree . Some nice spokers would set this bike off.
Beauty is in the eye of the owner...

Dresda have their own website as they are still in business:  www.dresda.co.uk

Also Axl has stuff on special frames (including Dresda): www.satanicmechanic.de/

Those front caliper hangers are very interesting.

He made them himself (as he did with various other detail parts)

Sam.

Regretfully not.  On the basis that the owner may be (or may one day be) a member here, let's just say that he was "engrossed in his competition" and not particularly forthcoming.  We left him to it.

We will keep an eye out as he attends most of the sprint meetings in the South...

If you get the chance to go to the Brighton Speed Trials and see the same bike, it's Mike Gilbert.
He had a bigger motor in a few years back and held the unlimited Japanese classic strip record at Santa Pod.

Then we turned up ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D

We are at the Pod on September the 17th and 24th if you can make it.
